Woolies Uses Over 1 Million PET bottles in 2020 Winter Fashion Range

We love fashion with a conscience and this winter season, Woolworths is helping consumers feel a little better about the impact their shopping habits have on the environment. In line with its Good Business Journey, which prioritises sourcing sustainable fibres and including recycled materials in products and packaging, over a million 500ml PET bottles have been diverted from waste streams and recycled into polyester materials to be used in the Woolworths’ 2020 Winter fashion ranges.
While Woolworths has used recycled polyester in items such as denim jeans before, this 2020 Winter season will feature sustainable fabrics used in most of the puffer jackets and gillets in the winter range, as well as some polar fleece items across men’s, ladies’ and kidswear.
The major use of the recycled polyester made from the plastic bottles is for the inner ‘wadding’ in the popular winter puffer jackets. Recycled nylon has also been used in some of the items. Woolworths’ Winter 2020 men’s wind and water-resistant puffer jacket, for example, is made from approximately 80% recycled fabric including the zip tape. The shell and lining each made from 40% recycled nylon and the soft and comfortable wadding (inner) made of 100% recycled polyester.
The puffer jacket, this season inspired by the on-trend 70s silhouettes, is a key fashion must-have. Drawing on nature, the Woolworths winter ranges feature comforting earth tones such as rich browns and greens, beige and cream, as well as chartreuse and rust.
