4 Wine Cocktails for All Seasons [Recipe]

Here are the perfect wine cocktails to make in spring, summer, autumn and winter!
Summer – Ginger Fizz
A summer drink should be refreshing and light on sweetness. Most summer wine cocktails consist of using Rosé wine but we prefer this delightful ginger recipe, which is outstanding and the perfect balance between sweet and savoury.
You will need:
80ml KWV Classic Collection Sparkling Wine
80ml Ginger Beer1 TSP of Muddled Ginger
1 TSP of Muddled Ginger
1 TBS of Agave Syrup (Found at most Woolworths stores)
1-2 Dashes of Tabasco (optional)
Method:
Put the sliced ginger and agave syrup in a cocktail shaker or directly into your vessel of choice and muddle with a wooden spoon until ginger is fragrant, add the ginger beer, stir and strain into a sugar-rimmed cocktail glass with ice. Top with the sparkling wine and dashes of Tabasco.
To Serve: Best served in a jam jar with a colourful straw.
Autumn – Apple Spritzer
An autumn cocktail should be characteristically fresh and crisp with a hint of warm flavour. Combined with fresh fruits and spices this is the perfect transition into cooler weather and the ideal way to slip into winter. For this cocktail choose a nice white wine, which will be complemented by apples and spices, like a Grenache Blanc.
You will need:
1 bottle of KWV Classic Grenache Blanc
100ml apple juice (try freshly pressed)
50ml lime juice
120ml soda water
Method:
Combine wine with apple juice, lime juice and ice in a jug. Pour into glasses and top with a splash of soda water.
To Serve: Best served in a highball glass garnished with a slice of fresh apple.
Spring – Pink Rose
Tickle yourself pink with this Rosé and gin cocktail, it’s light and refreshing and the perfect way to kick into warmer weather. Flowers and ripe berry aromas will remind you that summer is around the corner.
You will need:
1 bottle of KWV Shiraz Rosé
50ml ruby grapefruit juice
150ml Gin (Try KWV’s Cruxland Gin – with 9 botanical flavours and the rare Kalahari Truffle)
6 edible flower blossoms
Method:
Combine the ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker, shake until well chilled. Strain and divide among stemmed cocktail glasses or tumblers and serve immediately.
To Serve: Best served in a champagne flute garnished with edible flowers.
Winter – Last Minute Sunset
With winter comes wholesome hearty foods and deliciously warm cocktails. A cocktail for this season should include citrus flavours, cinnamon, nutmeg and syrup. Mulled wine is a winter favourite so try this easy-to-make recipe.
You will need:
1 bottle of KWV Classic Pinotage
50ml brandy (We recommend using award-winning KWV 10 Year Old)
2 Star anise pods
1 long strip of lemon or orange peel
2 TBS of sugar
2 Cinnamon sticks
Method:
Add all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over low heat until warm (do not boil). Remove from heat and let the ingredients stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
To Serve: Best served in mugs garnished with cinnamon sticks.
