Wine Bar Launches Curated Virgin Wine & Cheese Boxes
Listen we all miss wine, but it doesn’t look like the sweet nectar of the gods will be making its way back to supermarket shelves or restaurant menus any time soon. But, in true South African spirit, we make a plan. If you’re Jonesing for that relaxed Saturday afternoon wine feeling, then de-alcoholised wine is a great choice. And, to make it even better, why not add cheese?
There are few things as delicious as a cheese and wine platter enjoyed on a sunny afternoon with a group of your closest friends and family. While social gatherings are still frowned upon, that doesn’t mean you can’t’ bring the magic of socialising with cheese and wine into your home. Luckily for Capetonians, getting your vino and fromage fix is now easier than ever thanks to online wine bar, Wijn.
The boutique wine bar and shop, based in Paarl focuses on discovering and bringing you unique wines, paired with great food and curated experiences. Wijn offers a space for everyone, no matter your wine expertise, to discover, taste, enjoy and take home amazing wines, even when facing an alcohol ban. Of course, with lockdown the wine bar had to find a way to bring the Wijn experience to its customers and so the Wijn online wine bar was born. Now, with alcohol back on the no-go list the business had to innovate once again.
During lockdown, the boutique wine bar and shop, in Paarl Wijn, has partnered up with de-alcoholised wine Lautus, local Cheese Estate, Dalewood Fromage and local Premium Tonic, Barker & Quin to curate three Cheese and Wine boxes consisting of a bottle of de-alcoholised wine, a set of mixers, as well as a cheese that brings everything together.
Each curated box includes a virgin wine cocktail recipe as well as a Crystal Stemless Wine Glass and garnishes for the finished product. The Curated Box will be offered in three variants: a white, a rosé and a bubbly – each perfectly suited for the winter weather. All you have to do is sit back, relax and sip away.
The Sparkling Honey box (R380) includes a Sparkling Honey Cocktail recipe and cheese pairing tasting notes along with a bottle of Lautus Sparkling, 4-pack of Barker & Quin Honey Bush Orange Tonic Water, Wijn handmade sugar syrup, cocktail garnish, Wijn crystal stemless flute, Dalewood Fromage Lanquedoc Signature Cheese, and Dalewood Fromage Purple Fig & Port preserve.
For fans of pink wines, the Rosie Raspberry box (R340) includes Rosie Raspberry Cocktail recipe and cheese pairing tasting notes along with a bottle of Lautus Rosé, 4-pack of Barker & Quin Raspberry Fizz, cocktail garnish, Wijn crystal stemless glass, Dalewood Fromage Wineland Chef’s Camembert, and Dalewood Fromage Green Chilli preserve.
Lastly, the perfect companion for a warm winter day, the Savvy Lemon box (R340) includes a Savvy Lemon Cocktail recipe and cheese pairing tasting notes along with a bottle of Lautus Savvy Whit, 4-pack of Barker & Quin Cape Lemon, cocktail garnish, Wijn crystal stemless glass, Dalewood Fromage Traditional Camembert, and Dalewood Fromage Purple Fig & Port preserve.
All three boxes are exclusively sold on the Wijn website. If you order before 11am, it will be delivered on the same day to Cape Town and surrounds. All other areas, 2-4 day delivery. The delivery fee is R50.
