Some of us cringed as we watched Carrie Bradshaw strut the streets of New York City in what appeared to be a negligee, while some of us admired her bravery for being the style icon for the underwear as outerwear trend. But whether you loved or hated the slip, there’s no doubt that the sexy silky number has made its way through the decades and is now seen on models, celebrities and fashion bloggers alike. It’s seductive without putting everything on display, and looks absolutely stunning on every body type, which is probably why luxury labels continue to offer a new twist to the boudoir staple season after season.
It’s true that not every designer has jumped on the fad popularised by supermodels a couple decades back, as brands like MICHAEL by Michael Kors stick to conventional dress silhouettes such as shift, wrap, and sheath, as evident by the collection showcased on Lyst. However, you can’t deny how powerful the ’90s trend is, making an incredible comeback and becoming one of the most in-demand styles to date. With a long vest:
If you’ve got a white camisole dress on hand, try on a white or cream coloured vest for size. Finish the outfit with white shoes, and use your bag to add a nice pop of colour to your neutral motif. With a denim jacket:
Most people would throw on a white tee underneath to make a finished look more casual, channel the off-duty model look like Kendall Jenner, but consider changing things up with a denim jacket or a chambray shirt.
