While the rest of the beauty industry continues to push the anti-aging agenda in a big way Kiehl’s has decided to take a step back and focus on the treating the cause of premature ageing rather than the symptoms. With the new Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream, Kiehl’s dropped the “fine lines and wrinkles” agenda and instead looked to nature to treat the common causes of premature ageing and unhealthy skin. According to Kiehl’s, healthy skin is characterised by radiance and vibrancy, a smooth, supple texture and an ability to resist and recover from damage so they set about creating a product that would help men and women finally achieve healthy skin. The key ingredients in the new moisturiser include manuka honey and red ginseng root – manuka honey contains antioxidants that fight against environmental aggressors and stimulates collagen to strengthen the skin barrier, while the red ginseng root increases hydration and encourages cell turnover to prevent dull skin.
But this isn’t the first naturally derived moisturiser on the market so what makes this version from Kiehl’s any different? For me, it’s the fact that you see results almost instantly. I loved this cream from the very first time I used it and my skin immediately felt hydrated and soft when applied. Plus, after using the cream for about 2 weeks I could definitely notice a change in my skin and I’m excited to see what happens after a full 8 weeks of using the product. I also love that the cream is free of parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, and synthetic fragrances – so it’s great for my sensitive, reactive skin. I struggle with dehydration so this beautifully rich cream is just the thing I need to treat my skin morning and night. The cream might seem a bit too thick for some but the trick is to emulsify just a small amount in the palm of your hands before applying. The cream will quickly dissolve into a lightweight formula after rubbing in between your fingers or palms and absorbs easily into the skin without leaving an oily or sticky residue. A little bit also goes a long way with this cream so make sure you don’t apply too much.
And, if you’re into all the science behind it then you’ll be interested to know that the product faired extremely well in clinical tests done by Kiehl’s. The test found that when using the new Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream over an 8- week period skin’s radiance and glow improved by 41.8% while skin’s texture and smoothness improved by 39.7% in most participants in the study. For the study, a Healthy Skin Panel of women ages 20 to 30 (the Control) were assessed for skin radiance, smoothness and softness, while a Mature Skin Panel of women ages 35 to 49 (treated with Pure Vitality) were tested for the same attributes before and after the use of Kiehl’s new product. After 8 weeks of using Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream, Kiehl’s found that the Mature Skin Panel (or less healthy skin panel) demonstrated clinical scores that were either on par with or surpassed the Healthy Skin Panel.
The Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream is available from the Kiehl’s online store or in-store at Kiehl’s stores nationwide. The product is launching in South African stores this March and retails for R895 for 50ml.
