The Transformations in this Local Makeover Show are Breathtaking!

Thanks to transformation hits like Khloe Kardashian’s Revenge Body and local favourite, Revenge Makeover SA, reality makeover shows are more popular than ever before. And, while it’s great to watch Americans transforming their bodies and lives, seeing everyday South Africans making a big change is even more exciting and relatable. Another local favourite churning out incredible transformations every week is VIA’s “Wraak my mooi” The show first aired on the 9th of January this year and so far the transformations have been nothing short of breathtaking!
Perhaps the best thing about VIA’s “Wraak my mooi” is that it’s so much more than just a reality makeover show. “While we had an original vision for the series, the format has since evolved into an endearing, no-holds-barred and sometimes hilarious- exploration of hope, family, society and self,” says the show’s producer Nicole Bailey from Wolf Baby Productions.
The show follows 13 participants from around South Africa, each with different backgrounds, put into the hands of reputable professionals who work with them to build confidence and comfort by enhancing their beauty. Dr Zak Schabort, founder of The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium, hosts the show and serves as the official facial aesthetic doctor and is accompanied by Dr Wim de Beer, official dentist, dental surgeon and co-host of the show, Braam Wahl, ceramic artist and dental technician, Tiaan Schutte, stylist, and Jean-Marie Geldenhuys, Optiphi skin care therapist. The show also includes guest doctors from The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium practices around South Africa as well as an old colleague of Dr Zak and Dr Wim.

“The impact of a makeover can be a huge confidence booster and there is no denying that there is a direct connection between how you feel and how you look. A makeover can be a physical and emotional transformation and may help many people overcome difficult situations or life changing moments,” explains Braam. Of course, cosmetic procedures can be costly and out of budget for most South Africans which is where “Wraak my mooi” comes in. Not only is the show offering an incredible opportunity for those on the show who cannot afford this type of treatment privately but it also helps viewers with tips and information about optimal dental health and functionality, aesthetics and styling.
Bailey adds “we hope that our audiences will be as touched as we were by our contestants’ stories, but more so that many will relate to their obstacles and feel empowered to take the fate of their lives into their own hands – and start with the smallest positive change within them to create their own new beginning!”

The 13 finalists on the show were chosen from over 500 entries from around the country and include Zeida Solomons (38), Jo-Anne Metler (56), and Anna Nel (36) from Cape Town; Margaret Bodenstein (42) from Durban; and Georgie Van Zyl (37), Nombuyiselo Pamla (41), Horatio Williams (36) Amanda Beck (34), Sharon Landsell (51), Gwen Francis (30), Tonya Joubert (42), Jennifer Naude (52), Liesel Sawat (48) from Johannesburg.
