The Ritz Hotel Revolving Restaurant to Undergo Huge Revamp!

The Ritz Cape Town

It’s no secret that The Ritz Hotel in Sea Point, Cape Town is in serious need of some TLC. Back in the day The Ritz, and its famous revolving restaurant on the very top floor, were considered to be one of the top hotels and restaurants in Cape Town but that prestige has long gone. Until now that is. That’s right folks, the queen of Cape Town is making plans for a comeback and it’s all thanks to newly launched, Shimmy Luxury Collection. But, perhaps the most exciting bit of this comeback story is the relaunch and makeover of the revolving restaurant. The new spot will be headed up by none other than highly acclaimed South African Chef, Bertus Basson (of Overture and The Ultimate Braai Master fame) and certainly has us excited! Here are all the details on the new, CABANA restaurant and The Ritz Hotel makeover.

The great news is this isn’t a pipe dream we have to wait years for. No, The Ritz Hotel’s R110 million makeover is set to be fully operational in time for season, by the 1st of December 2016. The even better news is the revolving restaurant on the top floor is set to be transformed into CABANA, a Miami and Vegas-style lounge and restaurant with spectacular 360-degree views of the Atlantic Seaboard area. Of course, with Chef Bertus Basson as Chef Patron of the new eatery we’re sure we can expect great things from the spot in the future. If the whole Miami beach club theme is sounding all too familiar to you it’s probably because the new spot is being developed by the same great minds who brought us Shimmy Beach Club.

As for the food, Basson took to Facebook to give us some hints on what we can expect; “I am super psyched that I will be Chef Patron of the new and improved Ritz Hotel in Cape Town, re-establishing the iconic revolving restaurant on the top floor, serving modern South African Cuisine in this flipping cool, unique space with brilliant views,” said Basson. The local chef is known for his commitment to great food made with fresh, local ingredients and an acute attention to detail and we cannot wait to see what Basson has in store for us at the new Sea Point eatery.

But the new look doesn’t stop there. The makeover will also see the entire hotel get a spruce including the 220 rooms (including 4 Sky Villas) and other common areas. Once completed the hotel will also boast a Switch Playground Gym and an exciting new nightclub with multi-award winning DJ, Black Coffee, in an exclusive residency for both Shimmy Beach Club and The Ritz Hotel.
