Homemade Doughnuts and Deep-Fried Snickers Bars Prove a Treat on The National’s New Menu!

If you’re on the hunt for the most decadent desserts in town then now is the time to book your spot at The National in Parktown North, Johannesburg. In addition to a wide selection of mouth-watering starters and mains, the restaurant’s newly revamped menu offers dessert delights like Homemade Doughnuts with dark chocolate, white chocolate & caramel sauce and Deep-fried Snickers Bars with vanilla pod ice-cream (we’ll take two of each please!) and is every dessert lover’s dream come true. Now six months’ old, The National has been almost fully booked since it opened in September 2015 (just ask any hungry soul who arrives without a booking on a weeknight…) and the new menu is sure to keep the popularity going. With the new offerings James Diack, Chef Patron of The National together with Sachin Gosai, his Sous Chef, have evolved the trans-seasonal menu into something truly indulgent. Diners can expect the same delicious smoky Texan and South American flavours (there is also still an entire section of the menu inspired by their Texan Reverse Smoker) but the new menu also offers dishes with a strong bistro feel.

New dishes include a daily soup, Chicken and Chorizo Gumbo, Venison Bobotie, Pulled Brisket with a home-made roll for dunking and, of course, dessert delights like Homemade Doughnuts, Deep-fried Snickers bars, and warm, saucy Malva Pudding. All of which are made using the very best seasonal ingredients from local suppliers and the Diack’s family farm, Brightside Farm. The farm has two three-hectare veggie gardens that supply the restaurant with herbs, vegetables and fruit, so you know you’re getting the best-handpicked ingredients.
