Joburg’s Very First Speakeasy is Opening Next Week!

We’ve just heard the best news – the owners of well-known and much-beloved Parkhurst eatery, Coobs are opening a new restaurant in Joburg this month! The Coobs team are set to open the new spot next week and we can’t wait because it’s going to be Joburg’s very first old-school speakeasy (happy dance!) If the success of Coobs is anything to go by then we can be sure that the new spot, The National is going to be the hottest place in town from the moment they open the doors.
The new eatery from the Coobs team is set to open in Parktown North next week. According to the owners, diners can expect to find a laid-back and informal vibe with sidewalk-style eats, all prepared using organic, free-range, locally sourced ingredients. Chef James Diack is well known for using only the best of the best fresh ingredients so there is no doubt that the meals prepared at this new Joburg eatery will be top notch.
Perhaps most exciting of all is the fact that the restaurant will be equipped with a Texan-style smoker! This means that diners can expect to tuck into a range of delicious, smokey dishes. The National tested the waters for the new restaurant at the Parkhurst Village Fair recently, serving Chicken and Pork Cubanos (with homemade pickles, mustard, mayo and cheese on a homemade pretzel) and Pulled Pork Buns with Asian marinated pulled pork. Word on the street is diners can expect to find similar dishes on their menu. Also on the menu for the new eatery is a selection of seafood, pasta and salad dishes as well as steaks and burgers.
