The Galileo Open Air Cinema is Back — Here’s the Full Lineup!

The Galileo

Summer is back and for Capetonians that signals the return of The Galileo Open Air Cinema. The much loved outdoor movie experience is back for another season and offers movie lovers the opportunity to catch their favourite movies under the stars. Offering a line-up packed with 117 movies, from golden classics to fun family favourites, creepy horrors, heart-tugging rom-coms and everything in between, The Galileo adds movie magic to some of the most extraordinary venues across Cape Town. Now in its eighth season, The Galileo promises movie goers more than ever before for this new season in Cape Town.

Running from Wednesday to Saturday and December Sundays, The Galileo will pop up at Kirstenbosch Gardens, Battery Park V&A Waterfront, Meerendal Wine Estate (Durbanville), Central Park (Century City), Steenberg Farm (Tokai), Kelvin Grove (Newlands), as well as 20 award-winning wine estates across Stellenbosch, Somerset-West, Franschhoek and Paarl. Doors open at 18:00 on weekdays, 17:00 on Saturdays and 16:00 on Sundays, giving you ample time to delight in all there is to offer at a Galileo screening and the festive atmosphere it provides. The movie starts once the sun sets and the stars begin to shimmer.

While ticket holders are encouraged to bring along their own picnic to enjoy during the movie, each screening event also offers a delicious mini-market peddling a variety of snack and dinner options from burgers and pizza to popcorn, candy floss, and chocolates. In addition to exciting food stalls, this year The Galileo will also be screening a classic Bollywood movie for the first time as well as offering movie lovers the treat of free entry during their birthday week. To take advantage of the free birthday screening movie goers simply need to show their ID book or card at the gate of their chosen screening.

What’s more, while the outdoor cinema promises a magical night under the stars, there are of course occasions when the weather doesn’t play along. Previously, bad weather has forced the cinema to cancel screenings but this year The Galileo team has announced that in the event of bad weather, certain screenings will be moved indoors to the Zip Zap Circus Dome on the Cape Town Foreshore.
