We’re Smitten with This Local Design Brand!
We’ve discovered a local decor and accessories brand that is as sweet as pie! From gorgeous cushions, lovely beach bags, totes and tog bags, to cute makeup bags and toiletry boxes, SugarTongTong has everything you need in the most stunning designs. The Cape Town-based design brand specialising in textile and jewellery design is quite possibly the best discovery you will make this close to the festive season. Their collection is filled with gifts galore so you won’t struggle to find something special for family and friends this December. And, while you’re at it, why not spoil yourself with a little something too?
From the creative mind of Estee Smyly, comes a collection of must-have home decor items and accessories perfect for gifting. Using a variety of bold graphics and whimsical design, the SugarTongTong collection is all about functional playfulness. Drawing on influences that range from Middle Eastern patterns and embroidery technique to local flora and fauna, Estee’s designs offer a sense of nostalgia, with a fresh and contemporary edge for South African shoppers. Estee launched the brand in 2011 and though she has no formal training in design, she has always pursued creative expression, be its outlet ceramics, sewing or painting.
Her textile product range features scatter cushions and various functional fabric bags and we’re obsessed with them all. The fabrics and prints used for these beautiful pieces are a sight to behold and to be honest choosing between them is a little like Sophie’s choice. Recently this collection was also extended to include cotton napkins in a variety of fresh, striking designs so now we have to budget for every more must-haves from the collection (apologies to your credit card!) But that’s not all – we also found out that all the fabric products in the SugarTongTong range are designed, produced and screen printed by hand in Cape Town! Which proves, local really is lekker.
So what’s on our Christmas wish list this year? We can’t get enough of the gorgeous blue and white cross weekend tog bag (perfect for short getaways – R495) and the Pompom Makeup Bag in a variety of colours (including yellow, blue, red and brown – R90) but there’s so much to discover and love on their website so we really must insist you check it out!
