5 Places to Find Delicious Soups in Joburg this Winter!
Soup is the best darn thing about winter! There’s nothing better than warming up with a delicious bowl of freshly made soup and a side of bread on a cold winter’s day. There are loads of great places to grab a bowl of soup in Joburg so we thought we would share our favourite soup spots with you. Here are 5 fabulous spots to enjoy a bowl of soup in Johannesburg.
1. La Luna of Melville – Melville
This Italian restaurant is one of the best in Joburg and is single-handedly changing the face of Melville! Pop in for a delicious Tomato Soup starter (R 65) and enjoy one of their incredibly delicious pasta dishes for mains. Trust us, you won’t regret it!

2. Free Food – Illovo
You would never guess that Free Food is a vegan eatery – of course, their meals contain no meat and no animal products but what they ‘lack’ in animal products they more than make up for in taste. This tiny spot serves some of the best and most unique food you will ever eat in Joburg… ever! Their winter Blossom Broth (R85), a clear and pure Asian-inspired mung bean noodle broth with protein-rich shitake mushroom, well-suited fresh vegetables, ginger & garlic, and sesame seeds – is just the thing to warm up your tum this winter!

3. Belle’s Patisserie – Illovo, Pretoria and Clearwater
Our Editor, Crystal absolutely adores Belle’s so we just had to include their delicious soups at the top of our list! Pop into your nearest Belle’s for a delicious bowl of rich Tomato Soup or wholesome Minestrone Soup, served with a crispy slice of artisan bread. Available at the select Belle’s Patisserie stores.

4. Chaplin’s Grill – Hurlingham
We all know Chaplin’s for their amazing steaks and grills but did you know that they also do a mean soup? Order their soup of the day for a starter and you won’t be sorry! We recommend the traditional Vichyssoise (Potato & Leek garnished with Coriander) but with a daily changing ‘Soup of the Day’ menu option there’s so much for to discover.

5. Thai Cafe – Greenside and Cradlestone
With stores in Greenside and Cradlestone Thai Cafe is a great place to grab a healthy and delicious soup this winter. Their prices are super reasonable and their portion sizes are very generous! We recommend the Green Curry Soup (green curry with coconut milk, green beans, peppers and basil) or the Hot and Sour Prawn Soup (with vegetables, coriander and lime leaves). Yum!
