Santam’s New App Keeps Women Safe When They’re Out and About
Santam is lending a hand to South African women and making sure they stay safe when they’re out by themselves. Sure, as a grown woman you should be able to go about your business without anyone checking up on you but the reality is that driving alone at night or going for a run in the forest all on your lonesome can be a bit of a nerve-wracking experience. Thanks to Santam’s Be Safe App women and their families can now have peace of mind knowing that they have arrived at their destination safe and sound.
The app is available for free on both Android and iOS and is a great way to let your friends and family know that you are safe and sound when you’re catching public transport, driving alone at night or out exercising. While some of the features on the app are available for Santam clients only there are still some super useful features that are available for anyone to use. Namely the Be Safe feature.
The Be Safe feature allows you share your journey with your chosen contacts on your phone and notifies them once you’ve completed your journey safely. Simply choose the contacts you want to share your journey with and those numbers will get a notification once you’ve started and finished your run, car trip or walk. The app also notifies the chosen contacts if and when your trip has been delayed for whatever reason.
The app is really easy to use – simply select the type of activity you are doing (running, driving, walking, cycling, etc) and then choose your starting point, end point and finally how long you expect it to take you to reach your destination. Once you’ve done that choose the contacts you would like to stay in touch with and they will be able to track your trip on a live map or via SMS if they don’t necessarily want to download the app onto their phone.
