Joburg’s Legendary Burger Joint, RocoMamas, is Coming To Cape Town!
Capetonians rejoice! Joburg’s very best takeaway burger joint is coming to Cape Town and I couldn’t be more excited! During my three amazing years as a resident of Joburg I found many eateries that spoke to my heart and my tummy but nothing spoke to me quite like RocoMamas. Serving up mouth-wateringly good burgers, finger-licking-good wings and delicious ribs, RocoMamas is the only place to be when the junk food craving hits. The great news is RocoMamas is coming to Cape Town sooner than you think – the first RocoMamas Cape Town branch will open at the end of November 2015, with three more following just a days later. Here’s all the details on the new spots opening around the Mother City this year.
For me one of coolest things about RocoMamas is that they put you, the customer in the driving seat. Customers at RocoMamas get to create their own meal using a unique ordering sheet, and become fully responsible for the flavours on their plate. RocoMamas’ signature ‘smashburgers’ are made by you for you using exactly what you want and nothing else. Start off with a standard burger and bun and then tick off the ingredients you want to smash together on the bun. The list of toppings is super diverse and includes everything from bacon, caramelised onion, and rocket to pickles, Italian relish and Blue Cheese dressing.
Of course, if you don’t feel like being creative then you can also choose one of five standard smashburgers created by the RocoMamas team. Some of my favourites include the Rockstar burger (150g beef patty, Emmenthal Cheese, Caramelised Red Onions and Roco Mayo – R51) and the MushroomSwizz (150g beef patty, Emmenthal Cheese, sauteed mushrooms and Roco mayo – R51).
While the RocoMamas burgers are the reason you visit this epic spot you can’t leave without trying their oh-so-amazing ribs and wings. RocoMamas wings come in five different flavours including Buffalo, MoFo hot, Peri-Peri, Salt and Vinegar and Old School Barbeque and are served with a free Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing for dipping. Trust me when I say; these wings are no joke! I am beyond obsessed with chicken wings and these top my list as some of the best I have ever had. They also offer some of the best ribs in town – the ribs come in three different flavours including Old School Barbeque, Peri-Peri and Uncle Jack Bourbon and are a true taste sensation.
Whatever you decide to eat, don’t forget to add a delicious side dish. The menu offers a selection of salads as well as shoe-string fries, and gourmet milkshakes in a wide variety of flavours. The gourmet milkshakes are beyond yummy and thirsty diners can choose from seven different shakes including Oreo, Belgian Chocolate, Cherry Cola, PeanutButter and more. When I lived in Joburg RocoMamas was a regular hangout for me and my friends and diners can either grab a delicious bite on the go or sit down in the small, but rather awesome eatery. RocoMamas is known for their off-the-wall, colourful decor style which features orange & black mosaic walls and simple wooden tables with bar stool type seating as well as their friendly staff. We often chose to sit down in the eatery as the spot always had a great vibe – no matter which branch we visited.

RocoMamas will open their first Cape Town spot at Palm Grove Centre Durbanville (corner Main and Church Streets, Durbanville) on Friday 27 November 2015 followed by spots at Okavango Crossing shopping centre (corner Okavango and Langeberg Roads, Langeberg Ridge, Durbanville) on Sunday 29 November 2015, Somerset Mall, Somerset West (corner Broadway Boulevard and Centenary Drive) on Tuesday 1 December 2015, and Main Road, Green Point (107a Main Road) on Saturday 5 December 2015.
