Revlon ColorStay Suede Ink Lipstick Review: 8hr Wear for All-Day Glam

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
When it comes to makeup, I’m a less-is-more person. As much as I love watching these YouTube people spend hours contouring and applying concealer, highlighter, bronzer, eyeliner, eyeshadow and more, I just don’t have the desire (or the time) to do it myself. Instead, my morning makeup routine for an everyday daytime look is as simple as it gets — we’re talking a brow pen, mascara and a little bit of blush. At a stretch, I’ll whip out the tinted sunscreen or BB cream, and if I have an event for work, I’ll get extra fancy and apply lipstick.
The lipstick is key. It’s my secret weapon when it comes to trying to appear like I’ve made an effort while only doing the bare minimum. Nothing takes a simple makeup look from blah, to bloody fabulous quicker than a good lipstick. But listen, living this close to the edge takes some know-how. It can’t just be any run of the mill lipstick, it’s long-wear or bust. Otherwise you’ll be one canape into a social gathering and your entire rouse will be foiled. Plus, who has time to be constantly reapplying?
Because lipstick is my make-or-break beauty product, I’m always on the hunt for good long-wear ones. Which is why I was very intrigued to try Revlon’s new ColorStay Suede Ink Lipsticks. After falling in love with the ColorStay Satin Ink Lipsticks, this new range had me more excited than a squirrel on a trampoline. Plus, this new release has blown up on the internet with both celebrities and ordinary folk raving about it non-stop.
Fortunately I got my grubby little hands on a few shades to test out the 8-hour long-wear claim and see if they’re just as good as their Satin Ink counterparts. Designed to deliver vivid, comfortable matte colour in a no-transfer formula, this newbie from Revlon blends antioxidant-rich Vitamin E with a long-wear polymer complex. The lipstick has been formulated to act similar to a skin primer, smoothing and bonding the formula to your lips to extend wear and give you a promised 8 hours of wear.
This new formula from Revlon is a great choice if you’re not a fan of super shiny, glossy lipsticks and prefer a matte lipstick. The lipstick slides smoothly across your lips in one easy movement and deposits even colour as you swipe. One swipe is more than enough for decent colour. It’s also incredibly lightweight and marshmallow soft on the lips. It feels like I have nothing on my lips when I’m wearing it, and the formula dries with a powdery matte finish, which I absolutely love.
The lipstick definitely lives up to the long-wearing claim, and you’ll get a good few hours of wear out of the lipstick, with an even fade (depending on what you eat and drink) that leaves a pretty stain on the lips. For those moments when you do have to reapply, the product glides on easily and doesn’t clump with additional layering.
The product is kiss-proof and transfer-proof and won’t come off on the hand or most surfaces when dry. You won’t have any issues with colour transferring to your teeth, bleeding, or wiping off onto clothing. I even brushed my teeth wearing this lipstick and it didn’t budge, so be warned, you will have to use makeup remover to get this stuff off at bedtime.
Keep in mind, that this lipstick formula dries matte, some may find it to be drying so don’t forget to apply a good lip balm before applying this lipstick to really ensure all-day comfort. Wearing a lip balm underneath does slightly affect the long-wear capabilities of the product but it’s not dire.
If you’re looking for a new lipstick bestie, then the Revlon ColorStay Suede Ink lipsticks are a pretty simple way to fool people into thinking you put in a lot of effort when all you really did was choose a fabulous lipstick. There is a lot of hype online about this new addition to the Revlon ColorStay lineup and for good reason, this lipstick really is all that and a bag of chips.
The Revlon ColorStay Suede Ink Lipstick range is available in 13 shades ranging from luscious pinks to ruby reds. I got my hands on Tunnel Vision (a fun bright fuchsia shade), Spit Fire (a yellow toned red with a fiery coral tone to it), Bread Winner (a crimson red) First Class (a strawberry red) and Feed the Flame (a bright orange red).
Feed the Flame was a little too bright for my fair complexion but Tunnel Vision suited me perfectly as a bright option for a fun daytime event. Spit Fire and Feed the Flame would both look great on an olive skinned lass while Bread Winner and First class were great to complement the natural pink flush tone of my fair skin.
Revlon ColorStay Suede Ink Lipsticks are now available in South Africa at a price of R239.95. Find the collection online or at leading pharmacies and department stores nationwide.
