Review: Save Big On Eating Out with the V&A Waterfront Neighbourfood Specials
It’s time to dine out and save with the V&A Waterfront. As part of its Neighbourfood campaign, the much-loved shopping and restaurant destination is currently hosting an array of winter restaurant specials for every occasion — and what better time to save than this month?
Tinyiko Mageza, Executive Head of Marketing, V&A Waterfront, said that Neighbourfood — the V&As holistic food initiative — aims to develop a sustainable, locally-based, authentic and culturally diverse food ecosystem that supports healthy food lifestyles and livelihoods.
“Neighbourfood is our way of saying ‘come and let us break bread together’. Communal eating offers a sense of belonging, increases social bonding and feelings of wellbeing. It also sparks joy, enhances our sense of contentedness and embeds us within a community. The platform also serves as a table for important food conversations and this is reflected in themes and activations we have planned,” says Mageza.
As part of the campaign, visitors to the V&A Waterfont can savour the latest Neighbourfood special offers this winter from the likes of Quay Four, Sevruga, Tiger’s Milk, La Parada, Crumbs & Cream, Cause & Effect, Gibson’s, The Raj, Col’cacchio, Primi, and many more. Sampling the Neighbourfood Specials at Quay Four
There is still time to enjoy plenty of specials as the winter season comes to an end, to get a taste of the big savings on offer I paid a visit to the Tavern @ Quay Four to sample the special winter menu. The special menu is available until 30 September and includes 4 options at R159 only:
- A Quay Four Burger (Pure beef patty & mature cheddar cheese | Grilled chicken with basil mayo | Pure beef patty, bacon, and guacamole.
- Stuffed Chicken Breast – spinach mushrooms & parmesan cheese with buttered mash.
- Prawns & Calamari – Grilled prawns and tender calamari strips with chips.
- Fish Curry – Line fish with fragrant curry spices & coconut cream & basmati rice.
Quay Four is an institution at the V&A Waterfront and there’s nothing better than taking in the views from the deck at the Tavern at Quay Four on a sunny winter’s day. We were really spoiled with great weather on the weekend so it was the perfect time to enjoy a lazy lunch at Quay Four with friends.
Our crew of four tucked into a hearty lunch paired with a great selection of drinks. I ordered the Prawns & Calamari special while another member of our party opted for the Fish Curry special. Unfortunately the other two specials were not available on the day we visited. The Prawns & Calamari special did not disappoint and was the perfect spoil for a seafood fan like me. The prawns were juicy and packed with flavour and the fried calamari strips were just as delicious. The portion size was generous and I was impressed at the amount of prawns and calamari on the plate considering the price.
The Fish Curry portion was also very generous and is a great choice for a cooler winter day. If you like spicy curries with plenty of heat then you’ll love this option. The dish was beautifully presented in a mini potjie pot with rice on the side.
If you’re looking for the perfect place to get into the Neighbourfood spirit this winter, then I can’t recommend the Tavern at Quay Four enough. The restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere for groups looking to enjoy enjoy a beautiful Waterfront view without having to break the bank.
