Review: Dressed to the Nines for High Tea at The Palace at Sun City
There’s afternoon tea, and then there’s afternoon tea at The Palace. If you’ve ever dreamed of enjoying high tea at Sun City’s most luxurious hotel, the great news is the afternoon tea experience at The Palace Hotel at Sun City is indeed an experience fit for a queen.
With a variety of sweets treats and savoury delights on the menu, including sushi and old-fashioned sweets, High Tea at The Palace promises to offer something for every taste and sensibility.
Served in the stunning setting of The Palace’s glamorous Crystal Court, with high-arched windows and a breathtaking view of the hotel’s luscious gardens and ponds, this high tea experience is unlike any other. Offering an extensive selection of savoury eats, cakes and puddings, as well as traditional treats, guests at The Palace are spoilt for choice.
The food spread is something beyond incredible and offers a great mix of sweet and savoury. The quality of each little bite-sized treat is exceptional and there wasn’t one thing I tried that wasn’t a taste sensation of note. The savoury spread includes quiche, sushi, as well as cucumber and salmon, and pastrami and dill finger sandwiches to fill your tummy and delight the senses. Hot dishes including a traditional homemade chicken pie with a twist.
End off with a vast selection of dessert options in the mix including milk tart, lemon meringue, Victorian cake, a dark chocolate mousse cake, Amarula Bruleé and a to-die-for tiramisu. Just make sure you pace yourself because you’ll no doubt want to get a bite of every little morsel.
Guests enjoying high tea can also choose from a wide selection of premium teas to accompany the treats on offer. Some of my favourites on offer included the Sacred Knight black tea with chocolate pieces and cocoa beans. African Queen, a blend of Rooibos and vanilla, was another winner and paired beautifully with the sweet options on the high tea table.
Sitting in the beautifully decadent Crystal Court sipping on tea and munching on cakes is indeed a special experience. From the fine china adorning the tables to the live piano player filling the room with beautiful classical music, enjoying high tea at The Palace will make you feel like royalty. What’s more, the white-gloved servers at the afternoon tea session wait on you hand and foot, going above and beyond to make it a special occasion of note.
