Review: Dress it up or Sip it Slow with Suncamino Rum

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
Say hello to Suncamino Floral Rum, the world’s first floral-infused rum. Conceived in Cape Town, this delicious tipple is set to add something special to your summer. The award-winning spirit is not only enjoyed straight up, but is the perfect staple for classic cocktails and a great starting point for some adventurous cocktail mixing.
Suncamino is distilled in Barbados and aged for up to 8 years in ex-bourbon oak-barrels before it arrives in Cape Town. It is then further matured and infused with the natural extracts of hibiscus, honeybush and orange blossom. The result is a gold, smooth rum with a lush floral finish.
If you love rum and are looking to try something a little bit different, then you won’t be disappointed with this unique premium spirit. It’s world’s apart from the old-favourite Captain’s juice we all associate with rum. This is the captain’s more mature older brother… with a love of the finer things in life and a generous sense of adventure.
With their campaign tagline “Feeling Adventurous?”, this adventure lifestyle brand challenges drinkers to drop their historical perceptions of rum, and to venture out of their comfort zones. And they wouldn’t have to venture too far: Suncamino appeals to the gin drinkers with its floral aspect, the whisky drinkers with its oak-aged character, and the rum drinkers with the innovation within the category.
This summer, you’re invited to join in on the fun and enjoy Suncamino Floral Rum on the rocks, with a dash of ginger ale, or by trying one of the delicious drinks developed by the team.
Stewy van der Berg & Inus Smuts, the creators of Suncamino Floral Rum, say they believe in 3 or 4 ingredient cocktails that would transport the drinker to a specific occasion using fresh, quality ingredients. “The market is seeking health and wellness, and we’re leaning into that with cocktail recipes for the summer that are less sugary, less syrupy and hero the spirit: the smooth-blended, aged Suncamino Floral Rum.”
So, this year, pack away your gin and try a Suncamino & Tonic:
- A double shot of Suncamino Floral Rum
- Tonic water
- A squeeze of fresh lime (Stewy and Inus highly recommend lime over lemon for this one).
- Give it a swizzle and enjoy!
I tried this delicious R&T on a warm summer’s night, and it completely changed my perception of rum. This unique floral spirit is unlike any rum I have ever tasted and is definitely going to be my drink of choice for the summer season.
