Review: Crumbs & Cream Wows with New Winter Menu
You may not think that ice cream and winter are a perfect match but, much-loved ice cream sandwich shop, Crumbs & Cream, is making winter a little more bearable with the launch of its heartwarming new winter menu. Of course, one of the coolest things about Crumbs & Cream is that you get to create your own ice cream sarmie with a wide range of cookies and ice cream flavours available as well as a selection of toppings to finish it off. Now, the Sea Point ice cream parlour is taking the ‘create your own’ trend to a new level with the launch of moreish winter items, including a warm cookie bowl that is out of this world.
Crumbs & Cream is known for its selection of adventurous ice cream flavours and the new menu does not disappoint with a few new flavours to explore. I loved the pistachio as well as the Strawberry Pavlova flavours, but classics like the Cookie Monster and Salted Caramel are always a good bet as well.
Along with a few new ice cream flavours comes the addition of some truly delicious winter cookie flavours as well. There’s the Butterscotch cookie with a gooey butterscotch center and the Nutella Choc Chip cookie with a smooth Nutella center. If you’re going for an ice cream sarmie, these speciality cookies are an additional R3 on top of the original ice cream sandwich price (R50 for an ice cream scoop sandwiched between 2 freshly baked cookies). You can also add toppings and a spread to your ice cream sandwich at an additional R6 per topping or spread.
Of course, it wouldn’t be winter at Crumbs & Cream without a winter favourite; the warm cookie bowl! This Instagram-famous cookie bowl is served warm and offers the ultimate vessel to hold a scoop of ice cream this winter. I tried the warm cookie bowl with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream, topped with cookie crumble, and it was absolute perfection. The warm cookie bowl is gooey with just the right amount of crunch from the cookie chunks baked into the bowl. You simply cannot visit Crumbs & Cream this winter without trying this yummy creation.
Another winter must-try is the freshly made crepes which can be topped with ice cream and laden with all sorts of sauces and toppings to create a warm sweet treat.
For those who want to enjoy a taste of Crumbs & Cream at home whenever the mood strikes, the ice cream parlour also offers a range of take-home options including full-sized take-home ice cream sandwiches, Super Mini ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream tubs.
The Super Mini ice cream sandwiches enable you to enjoy small bites of Crumbs & Cream magic at home and are available in a pack of 4 or 9. The boxes include Vanilla, Oreo, Nutella, Peanut butter, Vegan & Caramel flavours. The box of mini bites is available in store as well as to order online through your favourite delivery apps including Mr Delivery, Uber Eats and OrderIn. The individually wrapped take-home ice cream sandwiches are available to purchase from various locations in Cape Town and Joburg including Spar Sea Point, as well as select Engen garages in and around Cape Town and Spar Norwood and select Engen garages in and around Joburg.
