Review: Beat Pigmentation Woes with Placecol’s Vitamin C Facial & Serum

facial

Vitamin C is an incredible vitamin with a multitude of benefits when taken systematically into our bodies as well as when it is applied topically through our skincare products. When used on the skin, vitamin C helps to boost cell turnover, increase natural collagen production, and aid in the repair of UV-induced sun damage and pigmentation. It brightens, helps even out pigment issues, and staves off oxidative stress, which otherwise leads to premature ageing. Basically, it’s a little miracle worker for the skin.

If you’re looking to introduce Vitamin C therapy into your skincare routine, I’d highly recommend turning to local brand, Placecol to help you do it. Born and bred in South Africa, Placecol offers South African beauties an affordable way to care for their skin with results-driven professional in-salon treatments and home care skincare products. I’ve been a big fan of Placeol for a while now and am always impressed at how affordable its products are compared to other professional international skincare brands.

I popped to Placecol Spa at The President Hotel in Cape Town’s Bantry Bay to experience the Placecol Vitamin C Glow Facial. With its tranquil atmosphere, ocean views, and beautifully chic décor, the Placecol Spa is one of my favourite Placecol branches to visit. If you’re looking to really pamper yourself while experiencing the brilliance of Placecol products, then this is the place to do it!

I absolutely love results-driven facials, and boy does the Placecol Vitamin C Glow Facial offer results! This innovative treatment works to tackle dark marks, uneven skin tone, and reduce pigmentation while brightening the complexion and boosting skin luminosity and radiance. The facial uses the power of vitamin C to leave your skin looking and feeling revitalised and fresh. After a summer spent lapping up the sun, I was in need of an intensive skin treatment to help bring my dull-lack lustre skin back to life, so I was excited to see what the Vitamin C Glow treatment could do for my skin.

Experiencing the Placecol Vitamin C Glow Facial

The intensive treatment incorporates microdermabrasion and radio frequency technology, with added Vitamin C to help treat uneven skin tone. The treatment process involves using a series of carefully selected products to treat the skin and leave you with healthy, radiant and glowing skin for days. Before beginning my treatment, the Placecol therapist analysed my skin to ensure she was using the best products to treat my individual concerns.

For my treatment, the therapists started by cleansing my skin with Placecol Illuminé Cream Cleanser to remove dirt and impurities, whilst also making sure too much moisture doesn’t leave the skin. The cleanser contains lactic acid and Allantoin that conditions and feeds the skin whilst cleansing, leaving the skin soft and supple.

Once my skin was clean, it was time for microdermabrasion. The non-invasive skin rejuvenation technique is brilliant for treating dehydrated and dull-looking skin to get back your skin’s youthful glow. For this process, fine crystals are used to gently buff and resurface the skin, removing tired surface cells and stimulating new cell production. In addition to improving the texture of the skin, Microdermabrasion also assists in eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. The microdermabrasion process feels like your skin is being gently scraped and suctioned, but the therapist moves so quickly with the little pen-like tool that you don’t feel any discomfort at all.

If you’re unsure, you can ask your therapist to start on a low setting and see how you go. It is recommended that you stay away from this treatment if your skin is super sensitive, but my skin is very reactive and dealt with it just fine. After the microdermabrasion the skin is renewed and ready to really lap up any ingredients applied to the skin. This helps you get maximum results from the products used in the treatment.

A mask is then applied to treat the skin and reduce redness and while it was doing its magic I was treated to the most incredible shoulder massage. Next up it was time for the Radio Frequency treatment, which involves using high-frequency radio waves to penetrate and heat different layers of the skin. Radio Frequency treatments stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin within the skin, as well as increases blood circulation. This step helps to prolong the results of naturally smoother and firmer skin from the microdermabrasion.

My skin was then treated to a spray of Placecol Calming Mist; a gentle, calming toner that pH balances the skin, reduces sensitivity and prepares the skin for further product absorption. Next it was time for the Placecol serum therapies. These were selected by the therapist to treat my specific skin concerns and included delights like the Moisture Hold Therapy, Collagen Reconstruct Therapy, and of course, the Vitamin C Radiance Therapy.

The Vitamin C Radiance Therapy is an intensive serum with a brightening effect on the skin. Powerful anti-oxidant activity helps to reduce the damaging effects of free radicals on the skin whilst supporting collagen production and aiding in the excess formation of pigmentation. It’s a brilliant little serum and can also be bought for use at home to prolong the results of your facial. I’ve been using it for the past 2 months, and it’s really helped to restore my skin’s brightness and improve the overall texture of my skin.

Results of the facial

The facial comes to an end with a generous dollop of moisturiser and sunscreen to protect the skin and lock in moisture before you head out the door. My skin felt absolutely incredible after this facial. I had a lovely glow, a clear complexion, and my skin felt baby soft. I was a little red after the treatment, but it calmed down after an hour or so, and in the days following the treatment, my skin continued to maintain its glow. I love the fresh skin look I had after the Placecol Vitamin C Glow Facial and even after a week later, I was still getting compliments on my skin.

I had few facials at Placecol over the years and the Vitamin C Glow facial is my favourite to date! I would highly recommend this treatment for anyone looking to tackle uneven skin tone and a dull complexion. As each treatment can be designed to suit your particular skin concerns, your skin will get exactly what it needs to get back that glow.

The Placecol Vitamin C Radiance Therapy (30 ml) is available for R330 at Placecol spas and the Vitamin C Glow Facial is R630. Visit the Placecol website for more info on treatments and products and to find a Placecol branch near you.
