Perdeberg

Perdeberg Cellar has launched Saam, a Fairtrade-certified range of ethical wines, that are sure to tempt your tastebuds. Made to celebrate the memorable moments shared together, these delicious table wines are a great buy for your next dinner party and will surely be a talking point at any table.

Perdeberg says, the ultimate wine is the one we create together. Capturing the spirit of ubuntu, Saam means “together” in Afrikaans, defining the qualities that create this new range. Perdeberg says its aim with the launch of Saam as a Fairtrade brand in the local market is to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

“With our existing following, we can make a change for the better in a disadvantaged community that is directly connected to the brand. Looking ahead, Perdeberg will provide much-needed infrastructure and skills development to empower the community as a society,” says Chantelle Boucher, Marketing Manager at Perdeberg.

A total of 72 workers and 20 families who work at the grape-producing vineyards in South Africa’s Paarl Wine Valley, are currently supported through the Fairtrade social premiums generated.

“Each purchase ensures that our vineyard workers and their families benefit from community projects and our producers remain sustainable. We believe that Saam pairs perfectly with remarkable people, places, and causes. By enjoying this wine you complete the circle,” concludes Boucher.

The Saam range includes two varietals; Saam Pinotage 2020 and the Saam Cabernet 2020. With notes of prunes, cherries and ripe berry and hints of vanilla oak, the Pinotage 2020 is filled with ripe fruit and rich tannins, boasting a long aftertaste. It pairs beautifully with tuna steak, roasted pork shoulder, barbeque lamb ribs or matured cheese.

The Cabernet 2020 is produced in a modern style for an easy-drinking experience. Aromas of blackcurrants, blueberries and mocha undertones are evident on the nose whilst soft smooth tannins create a velvety mouthfeel for a rich, lingering finish. Enjoy it amongst friends or paired with robust meat dishes like kudu fillet, duck breast or lamb chops.

Saam is available at Pick ‘n Pay Liquor at a recommended price of R75 per bottle.
