Now, before you think this is just another crazy overseas trend that will never see the light in South Africa, think again because thanks to local eatery, Old Town Italy these incredible cones have hit South African shores in a big way.
The Durban-based eatery is famous for its delicious “cronuts” and now they’re stepping up their game by offering sweet-toothed locals a food trend like no other. Old Town Italy’s new “Conuts” are creating quite a stir in Umhlanga with this new treat which is said to be a modern take on a traditional Slovak cake and pastry made from grilled dough, topped with sugar and walnuts, called Trdelník. The trend was started by Prague café, Good Food Coffee and Bakery whose signature “Chimney Cakes” have been creating mayhem on social media.
But it’s not all about the cone; Old Town Italy is well-known for their scrumptious Fabbri Gelato in a variety of flavours.
