Non-Alcoholic Bar Opens in Joburg

Abstinence Spirit

Just because booze is off the table, doesn’t mean you can’t still have a good time. Just ask Niks Bar, Johannesburg’s first non-alcoholic bar. Located in Rosebank, the all-new Niks Bar is an extension of Mix Cocktail Bar in the popular Mesh Club so you know it’s destined to be the hottest new spot in town.

Opened with the aim of helping to save jobs and keep unemployed bartenders earning a living while the nationwide liquor ban is still in place in South Africa, the new hot spot is taking non-alcoholic drinks to a whole new level with delicious mocktails and virgin drinks like you’ve never seen.

The aptly name Niks Bar is a playful take on the Mesh Club’s in-house Mix Bar, which is known for serving some of the best cocktails in town. With ultra-trendy décor and a menu featuring non-alcoholic spirits, mocktails, beers and sparkling wine, the bar is a great place for locals to hang out with friends. Hungry guests can also snack on dive-bar style food while being entertained by the sounds of live DJs. There are also board games available for more chilled hangouts with mates.

A non-profit operation, Niks Bar enables local bartenders to work shifts as well as take home tips and profit share. Bartenders can put their own twist on their shift each day by adding their favourite tunes to the playlist or putting a signature drink or dish on the menu for the day.

Operating under strict hygiene and safety regulations, with social distancing and curfew regulations in place, Niks Bar offers a safe space for Joburgers to enjoy some time out away from home. A “no mask, no access” rule is in place to ensure the safety of guests and staff at the bar.
