Cape Town’s Rolls-Royce of Yoga & Fitness Studios is a Dream for Busy Women [Review]

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
“I walk around like everything is fine, but deep down inside my shoe, my sock is sliding off.” Yes indeed, like a lot of women, I’m always juggling one too many balls and occasionally (ok, a lot of the time) one or more of those balls falls to the ground with an almost deafening thud. The one ball I drop more than others is the good ‘ol exercise ball. If I’ve got a busy week ahead then my exercise classes are the first thing to be cut from my schedule, because on top of everything else, the extra stress of remembering to pack in my yoga mat, sweat towel, water bottle, and other gym paraphernalia just isn’t worth it. Of course, I know finding time to sweat and stretch is super important so instead of dropping exercise all together I’ve decided to work smart, not hard by signing up to the Rolls Royce of fitness studios. By offering everything you need to work out and more, myUTOPIA allows members to “come as you are”, making it that much easier to make exercise a priority in your busy schedule.
With classes ranging from yoga and pilates to barre, HIIT, and more, the full-service fitness spot at the V&A Waterfront is what busy women have been waiting for. From the moment you walk in, to when you leave, it’s clear that there’s no place quite like myUTOPIA in Cape Town. I love that the only thing you need to do when booking a class at MyUtopia is show up in or with your gym clothes – that’s it (but heck, even if you forget your yoga pants you can grab a pair from the in-house retail section). At myUTOPIA they’re all about making your life as convenient as possible – yoga mats are provided and laid out before each class and a bottle of water and sweat towel is given to each yogi upon entering the class. Plus, when the class is over you’re greeted at the door with a cold homeopathic towel drenched in essential oils to wipe away any bacteria from the workout, leaving you completely refreshed. It’s pure bliss I tell you!
I got the chance to try out a few classes recently and I was really impressed with the variety of classes on offer and just how engaging the instructors are. If you’re looking for a detoxifying yoga experience then you can’t go wrong with the Ashtanga Yoga classes, there’s a wonderful beginners class for first timers. The Goddess Yoga class will allow you to connect with your feminine side and offers a deeply spiritual practice for those days when you just need to disconnect with the outside world. If you’re looking for a true total body workout then you’ll want to try the Power Sculpt Yoga class which is basically Power Yoga with weights. Fans of HIIT training will also love the 40-minute bodTOPIA class based on 28min of HIIT training and 12min of warm up and cool down. Don’t forget to fit in a 45-minute foam rolling class to really stretch out those tired and stressed muscles – this class did wonders for my always tense muscles!

Visiting this spot really is something else and I was super impressed with how much thought has gone into every detail of myUTOPIA and just how many amenities they offer. In addition to the two fully equipped studios (one non-heated and one heated), myUTOPIA also offers stylish locker rooms (with showers, lockers, hair dryers, fluffy towels, and even toiletries, and salon-quality hair products!), a blow & go service (for when you don’t have time to blow-dry your own hair), Vita Liberata organic spray tan booth, and even retail section. But wait, there’s more! Members at the spot are guaranteed 5-star service and they even launder your workout clothes and provide small things like a tooth brush or razor when you leave them behind. Other services on offer, on selected days, are a physiotherapist, nutritionist, life coach, lunch time Botox, reflexology and sports massage. The studio even has a dedicated smartphone app that you can use to book your classes, they really have thought of everything!

Of course, you’ve also got to eat and the café in the studio, Nourish is the perfect place to grab a snack or a meal before or after a class, it also serves as a great place to get a little work done work. Nourish offers a healthy selection of fresh smoothies, juices, as well as breakfasts and lunches. On the menu, you’ll find delights like Avo on Toast, Chicken Pot Pie, Soup, Ceasar Salad, as well as open sandwiches or wraps with a range of delicious fillings to choose from.

Your first drop-in class at myUtopia is FREE (R100 for international visitors) after that it’s R195 for a single class (including 25% off a blow-dry) but they also offer some great membership packages for regulars. If you really want to experience everything myUTOPIA has to offer then try the Monthly Unlimited Platinum package (includes 10 blow & go vouchers or 3 massage treatments, 1 spray tan, your own personal locker and toiletries, laundry service for your workout gear, 20% off all your meals, and a coffee on-the-go after each class).
