McCain Launches Virtual Masterclass Cooking Series Hosted by J’Something

Last year brought about a new way of living, with small gatherings and home cooking becoming the order of the day. With consumers looking for continuous recipe inspiration, McCain launched its first-ever virtual Made With McCain Masterclass series, hosted by J’Something, alongside a special guest.
During the course of the year, consumers will be invited to participate in McCain’s virtual masterclasses from the comfort of their kitchen, and get the inspiration they need to reach new heights in the kitchen.

The first of the four-part virtual masterclass series welcomed Zanele Van Zyl. The culinary influencer and cookbook author invited guests to cook along with her to create a chicken stir fry tortilla, which was brought to life with the McCain Hawaiian Stir Fry. She showed participants how to make tortillas from scratch, and shared a delicious stir fry made with a quick Asian-inspired sweet and sour sauce.
Following months of increased home-cooking, consumers need options that not only make home cooking simpler, faster and more nutritious but also bring some much-needed versatility into the kitchen. Even those who love to cook may find themselves losing steam when it comes to whipping up multiple meals a day.
“That’s where McCain fits in,” says Catharina Bester, Marketing Manager: McCain Foodservice & Retail. “It’s our mission to help grow thriving families, not only through the convenience and nutrition of the planet friendly, locally-grown food that we supply but through the provision of accessible mealtime inspiration. We hope that our Made with McCain Masterclass series will help give consumers an extra boost of inspiration, expand their cooking repertoire, and bring more excitement into the kitchen — and onto the dinner table”.

Tortillas
In a mixing bowl, sift flour and baking powder. Add salt, oil, water and dried parsley. Need using your hand until it’s mixed well. It must be a round ball and divide into eight portions. On a flat surface, sprinkle flour. Shape into balls, and place on the floured surface flatten slightly with a rolling pin.
Heat a non-stick pan on medium heat. Cook until it starts to develop bubbles, then turn it over. Stack cooked tortillas and wrap them in a clean kitchen towel. This will keep them moist and warm.

Season chicken with chicken spice. In a pan, heat oil and fry chicken strips until cooked.
In the same pan, fry onion and McCain Hawaiian Stir Fry from frozen for approximately 4 minutes.
Sweet and Sour Sauce
In a separate pan, on low heat, add sugar, lemon juice, garlic cloves, dry chilli flakes, paprika and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer and reduce. Turn off the heat.
Place tortillas on a flat surface then spread cream cheese at the edge. Now place the stir fry mix in the middle, drizzle the sweet and sour sauce, fold and close the tortilla.
