Learn to Run 21.1km with OptiFit in Cape Town

If you’ve always imagined yourself as a marathon runner but never thought you could ever do it, think again! Most of us are able to run long distances with the proper training and progressing gradually to allow your body to adapt. Too often we quit before we’ve even really begun because the idea is just too challenging, but with OptiFit, in association with the Sports Science Institute of SA (SSISA), you can be a long distance runner in no time!
Sign up for the OptiFit “8 weeks to 21.1km” programme and you’ll be well on your way to finishing that half marathon in no time at all. The programme is designed for runners who run a comfortable 10km and is a follow up to the successful 10km programme which has seen amazing results thus far. UCT’s Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine found it to be perfectly safe and effective with members reaching their goals with no muscle damage or pain.
Included in the course, which starts late January 2018, is three weeks of training by caring biokineticists who themselves are experienced runners. In these training sessions you’ll master the skills and gain the confidence needed to run a half-marathon. You’ll also get useful tips about the best running gear for you, training groups to join and exciting events to look forward to. There’s also a basic health and fitness assessment at the start and end of the course. The entire group will then participate in their target race at the Old Mutual Two Oceans 21.1km on 31 March 2018.
To qualify for sign up, you need to be fit and healthy with no injuries or major health risks. There’s also a workshop and health screening as well as a starter pack, discounts on gear and guest passes to train at SSISA’s Wellness and Fitness Centre.
