While dental care is essential for good health, taking care of your teeth shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment. According to Knowledge is Key, worldwide approximately 3.5 billion toothbrushes are sold annually, equating to 175 million pounds of plastic waste. The materials used to make toothbrushes cannot be recycled, which means all that plastic ends up in either landfills or our oceans where it will remain for at least 1000 years. Scary stuff!
Luckily, specialist health and beauty distributor, ACDOCO SA has a solution with its award-winning Jordan Green Clean sustainable toothbrush range. ACDOCO SA says that 90% of the toothbrush and its packaging is made from recycled materials, which minimises the use of raw materials and gives waste materials a new life.
The recycled materials used to make the toothbrush have been carefully chosen for their recycling and sustainability credentials. The handle is made from 100% recycled plastic that comes from food containers such as yoghurt cups.
But it’s so much more than just an environmentally-friendly toothbrush — it’s brilliant for cleaning your teeth as well. The Green Clean toothbrush is ergonomic and is simple and functional. It does not have the rubber bristles, criss-cross patterns or split-head designs often seen on modern toothbrushes but instead offers a simple, bristle design. The bristles are made from bio-based nylon, originating from castor oil plants.
Hands-on with the Jordan Clean Green
According to experts, the ergonomically-designed, recycled, disposable toothbrush offers exceptional teeth cleaning capabilities for the mouth, outperforming its peers (including bamboo) in not only durability and hygiene, but also sustainability.
I struggle with sensitive teeth and gums, so I have to ensure I brush effectively, but also gently. I’ve been using the Clean Green for a few weeks now and it’s great! The brush is nice and dense and the shape makes it so easy to hold and reach all the areas in the mouth. The bristles are gentle on the teeth and gums, yet you still feel like your mouth is squeaky clean after every brush.
Of course, it also makes me rest easy knowing that after 3 months of brushing, when the brush goes in the bin, it won’t be contributing greatly to the planet’s plastic problem.
Even the packaging it comes in is made from recycled paper fibres and the label is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper, which comes from sustainably-managed forests. From packaging to product, there’s no worry about single-use plastic waste with this innovative toothbrush.
The Jordan Clean Green Toothbrush is available for both kids and adults in a range of pastel colours and neutral tones. Find it at selected Clicks, Dis-Chem and PnP stores at R49.95.
