With 14 days to go to Johannesburg’s first HYROX event, fitness racing fans are undoubtedly curious about what goes down on race day. South Africa’s second HYROX event is due to take place on the 1st of March in Johannesburg and whether you’re taking part or watching from the sidelines, it’s sure to be an electric day for everyone involved.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of South Africa’s iconic City of Gold, Johannesburg boasts a vibrant fitness culture and the perfect stage for this second event in South Africa. Join in at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, where competitors of all fitness levels will push their limits in an exciting blend of running and functional workouts.

HYROX SA has seen a massive response from the Gauteng fitness community with entries to all race categories now sold out. Racers from all across South Africa have clamoured for a coveted spot on the HYROX dancefloor and it’s sure to be a record-breaking day out for both racers and supporters alike.

Can spectators attend HYROX Johannesburg?

Spectators are welcome to attend the event. There is nothing better for an athlete than having their friends and family cheering them on. So why not come to support and see what the race is all about?

According to HYROX SA, the spectator area has been designed so an athlete’s support group can be close by at almost every workout. Spectator tickets, like athlete tickets, can be purchased online on the event page of the HYROX website or on-site on event day (the event is cashless so don’t forget your debit card!).

Spectator tickets for HYROX Johannesburg are priced at R150 per person. Children under 12 get in free and must be accompanied by an adult.

What can athletes expect on HYROX race day?

Athletes and spectators are in for a fun fitness-focused day with plenty to keep you occupied during the event.

“We are excited to welcome our South African and global community to the HYROX race day. For many of our athletes, this will be their first HYROX event, and we believe the experience will be unforgettable,” said Simon Goldsbrough, Head of Sports at HYROX SA. “The venue will be buzzing with energy, thanks to our athletes and the presence of a Red Bull music vehicle and DJ. Our event MCs will keep the crowds engaged, encouraging athletes as they navigate the various stations in the RoxZone and complete their runs.”

HYROX SA has confirmed that all HYROX global and local partners will have activations at the venue on the day. The team at HYROX SA has also hinted at having a few surprises in store, so keep an eye out on the HYROX South Africa Instagram page for announcements.

As we approach the HYROX Johannesburg event, we’re excited to highlight key partnerships that will make this event unforgettable. F45 Training will be manning the Warm-Up Zone, ensuring competitors are ready to tackle the challenge ahead. Meanwhile, Red Bull will be providing refreshments to keep everyone energised throughout the event.

A few well-known, top-level HYROX athletes will be in attendance and racing in the Pro division on the day, making HYROX Johannesburg a great opportunity for fitness enthusiasts to see the best of the best from around South Africa competing.

For athletes, an Athlete Guide will offer an overview map of the hall and all the information needed to ensure a smooth race day. While preliminary wave times have been posted, individual start times will communicated to athletes via email 3 days out from the race. Athletes can make use of aid stations before, during, and after the race. This includes a bag drop area, changing room facilities, as well as hydration stations throughout the course and at the finish. Pre and post-race aid can be found in the athlete warm-up area and recovery area with partners Redbull, and Concept2 on hand to assist with pre-race warm-up and post-race recovery.

F45 Warm-Up Zone

HYROX SA has confirmed that HYROX official global training partner, F45 South Africa will be manning the Warm-Up Zone at HYROX Johannesburg, offering support and guidance to competitors as they prepare for their race.

At HYROX Johannesburg, the F45 Warm-Up Zone will be fully equipped with everything you need to prepare for your race. The F45 South Africa team will be there to guide, answer questions, and provide clarity on the rules. This is your space to get ready for an unforgettable race.
