Healthy Food Finds You Have To Try! [Review]

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
For me snacking is a way of life! If I haven’t managed to fit in some time to snack then it definitely hasn’t been a good day. Alas, not all snacking is good snacking so I’ve had to get creative and find healthier ways to get my snack on. I’ve recently come across some new and oh-so-fabulously healthy snacks that will slot right into your fit food lifestyle and I’ve put all my new discoveries together in a handy list just for you. You are SO welcome!
1. ButtaNutt Tree Nut Spreads
Forget all that mumbo jumbo about nuts and nut spreads being ‘fattening’ because nut spreads are back in a big way. Finally my love for delicious tree nuts is acceptable! This time around it’s about so much more than peanut butter – there are spreads for every nut imaginable and the great news is, there’s one local producer doing a stellar job at making the best nut spreads ever. Do yourself a favour and try ButtaNutt spreads as soon as possible. The range includes jars of Cashew Macadamia,Chocolate Macadamia, Cinnamon Macadamia, Honey Almond, Pecan Macadamia, Roasted Almond, and Roasted Macadamia as well as super useful single serving sachets in select flavours. The spreads start from R70 a jar and can be ordered from the ButtaNutt online store.
2. The Primal Pantry Paleo Bars
Are you all about the Paleo lifestyle? Do you love snack bars but hate all the weird stuff that seems to make its way into these delicious pre and post workout snacks? Well, lucky for you the UK’s first Paleo snack bar is finally in South Africa (yay!) The bars are crazy delicious and come in a range of different flavours like Hazelnut and Cocoa; Apple and Pecan; Almond and Cashew; Brazil Nut and Cherry; and Coconut and Macadamia. The great thing about The Primal Pantry is that the bars are free of any grains, dairy, refined sugars and vegetable oils and are always made with 100% natural ingredients! You can buy a box of 6 Paleo bars for R174 from the Primal Pantry South Africa online store.
3. Mi Whey Protein Ice Cream
Yes that’s right, now you can have your ice cream and eat it too! Added sugar free, gluten free, low and low carb, Mi Whey Protein Ice Cream is the first guilt-free ice cream in South Africa. The ice cream is made locally from Whey Protein isolate and all natural ingredients and promises to give you a whopping 30g of protein in each 230ml serving. The ice cream comes in three flavours (Choco-late, Strawberry and French Vanilla) but they are continuing to the grow the range all the time. The ice creams are about R30 a tub and are available from selected Dischem stores nationwide.
4. Uber Flavour Iced Tea
As a devout lover of iced tea I can personally vouch for this product. I sampled my first bottle just over 2 months ago and instantly fell in love with it. The three iced teas in the Uber Flavour iced tea range are all made from 100% fresh fruit juice and Rooibos tea. It’s high in antioxidants and contains no added sugar or other additives. In short it tastes nothing like the mass market, over processed iced teas in the shops but instead is beyond refreshing and delicious. Choose from Mango and Vanilla, Apple and Cinnamon and Honey and Lemon. The tea retails for between R25 and R34 a bottle (depending where you buy it) and can be found at a bunch of retailers and restaurants in Cape Town and Joburg as well as online at YuppieChef.
