Gin Lovers in Cape Town, Pay for Your Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic with Cucumbers!

We never thought we’d see the day but cucumbers are officially a currency! Ok, a currency that is only good for a Hendrick’s G&T but that’s pretty darn incredible! Yes folks, if you’re in Cape Town, it’s time to forget all about that silly business with cash and cards because thanks to Hendrick’s Gin you can exchange a cucumber for a delectable Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic. The exciting campaign is all in celebration of World Cucumber Day on June 14 – here’s how you can score virtually free Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic at your local Cape Town.
In the lead up to the very special international celebration of cucumbers, Hendrick’s fans will be able to visit 3 bars across Cape Town, including Burger & Lobster, Harvey’s at The Mansions, and The Twankey Bar to facilitate the unorthodox transaction. The campaign will run from Monday, 5 June to Wednesday, 14 June 2017 and during this time Hendrick’s Gin will recognise the true value of the cucumber by transforming the humble green fruit into exchangeable monetary units.
The participating bars will accept bona fide cucumbers of any species as currency – or “bar tender” – in exchange for a refreshing Hendrick’s & Tonic during the world’s first dedicated ‘Cucumber Hour’ – a perfect twist on the popular ‘cocktail hour’ offering. ‘Cucumber Hour’ will run from 17:00 to 18:00 every day until Wednesday, 14 June, and is limited to the first 30 cucumbers presented at each bar on each day.
