G’Day Australia: The 5 Must-Dos When You Travel Down Under

Australia is usually high on people’s ‘bucket list’ of places to visit. It is a long flight from South Africa, but these must-dos make it worth it. You can fill up a fantastic holiday with these top tourist hotspots that have to be seen to be believed when you are down under.

Surf’s Up Down Under

The beach is a huge part of Australian life, and even if the sun and sand are not your thing, you should still pay a visit to one of the country’s amazing stretches of coastline. The beaches there are like no other in the world, and the Australian beach lifestyle is just as unique. A beach is a home away from home for the Aussies, and they will spend all day there eating, sleeping and drinking. Whitehaven Beach in Queensland is probably Australia’s most beautiful beach.

Sporty Sight-Seeing

Australia is a sporting nation, just like South Africa. Our national rugby teams have met many times on pitches in both countries, and some of Australia’s hollowed rugby grounds are some of its most impressive structures and a must-see when you visit. If you are lucky, you might be able to watch a game while you visit, which is worth it for the atmosphere alone. Keep an eye on the rugby news when you go down under and try to see some sport at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney or Marvel Stadium if you are visiting Melbourne.

Going on a Walkabout

The Bungle Bungles in Western Australia are worth visiting for the name alone, but there is much more to them than the name. Every trip to Australia is an excuse for a trip to the outback and seeing landscapes that you cannot find anywhere else in the world, even in Africa. The Bungle Bungles are a range of rocks that stretch through Purnululu National Park and interestingly were not discovered until 1983. This incredibly remote area of Australia has breathtaking beauty, and the Bungle Bungles are just one of the impressive sights in the national park.

Glorious Sydney

If you don’t want to get off the beaten track, see some sports, or surf at the beach, Australia still has lots on offer and Sydney has a little bit of everything. This city is simply beautiful and is renowned across the world for its laid-back atmosphere, cleanliness, and acres and acres of shopping, hospitality, and recreational spaces. It is an open city of wide streets and lots of social spaces, with a harbour that provides stunning views of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Visit late in the year for the best weather.

Jump in the Water

One of Australia’s many unique hotspots is just beneath the surface of the ocean. The Great Barrier Reef truly lives up to its name. It is an awe-inspiring sight like visiting an alien planet where life happens in a rainbow of colour. Snorkelling in the shallow depths of the reef is an unforgettable experience—just watch out for sharks.

Each of these top tourist attractions should be on your Australia bucket list. Sun, sea, sand, and stadiums are all on offer, and plenty more. Go on, take a look at some flights and say G’day to Australia.
