Tuck Into a Sumptuous Fish Braai at the Eikendal Fish Out Feast [Event]
It’s time to get hooked! Head to Eikendal for the inaugural Fish Out Feast on Sunday 8 November 2015 and experience something a little bit different. With its fly fishing season drawing to a close, Eikendal Estate is casting a fresh spin on family entertainment in the Stellenbosch Winelands with an invite to young and old to share in its last day of fishing for the year.
If you love fly fishing or want to try your hand at the sport then make sure you take part in the fishing action on the day. “This open day of fishing at Eikendal will see experienced anglers and amateurs joining us at the water’s edge to help us clear out our dam for the season. It is the perfect opportunity for enthusiasts to reel in that big whopper, or just to come and learn more about this ever-popular pastime,” explains Philip Meyer who runs the fly fishing operation at this esteemed wine estate and will be sharing some tips and techniques on the day. Visitors hoping to fish need to bring their own rods on the day and will be allowed to keep the trout they catch at R110 per kilogram.
If you’re just in it for the food then make sure you stick around for the fish braai! After an exhilarating morning at the dam, guests will be treated to a languid fish braai on the shaded lawn where foot-stomping vibes by Newton & Co will add to a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors can also enjoy some wine tasting in the tasting centre on the day – with each adult being treated to a complimentary glass of their newly released Sauvignon Blanc 2015 with their lunch. For the kids, there’s also plenty of fun to be had with a jungle gym and jumping castle on the lawns overlooking the dam.
The Eikendal Fish Out Feast costs R150 per adult and R75 for kids under 12 and the action at the dam starts at 09:00 with lunch being served at 12:00. Your ‘gone fishing’ ticket includes the opportunity to wet your line and catch as many trout as you wish, the braai lunch, an Eikendal wine glass to take home, a taste of the Sauvignon Blanc 2015 (or cooldrink) and the live music entertainment. All Eikendal wines will also be on sale on the day.
