makeup

The beauty world is full of surprises! Just when you thought you’d seen it all when it comes to exciting beauty launches, the clever sausages keep pulling more rabbits out of the hat. I tried a lot of beauty products in July but these 10 finds were indeed my favourite of them all. Here are my picks for the top 10 new beauty products to try in July and beyond.

1. Tangle Teezer Compact Glitter Gem

Tangle Teezer Glitter Gem
I am a HUGE Tangle Teezer fan and this limited edition compact styling hairbrush is a must-have for your summer travels. The dazzling on-the-go detangling hairbrush has a handbag-friendly design and is not only a great detangling brush, for combing out stubborn knots, but also the perfect finishing tool. The mini wonder’s unique two-tiered teeth technology enables you to smooth, shine, and define your locks anytime and anywhere. The long teeth detangle while the short teeth smooth the hair cuticle for healthier-looking, glossy hair. It’s also great for back-brushing to add volume and easily brushes out.

The Tangle Teezer Glitter Gem is available from selected salons as well as Clicks stores nationwide at a recommended price of R295.

2. Viva La Juicy Soirée

Viva La Juicy Soirée
If you love fun, playful fragrances you’ll adore this new scent from Juicy Couture. The latest iteration of the best-selling Viva La Juicy fragrances, Viva La Juicy Soirée is a glamorous and bold scent for the lady who loves to live life in the ‘fun’ lane. With top notes of jeweled fruits (including Pink Kiwi, and Sparkling Mandarin) and Cassis Leaves the fragrance opens up with a pop of freshness that is sure to liven up your day. At the heart of the fragrance you’ll discover a flush of delicate, feminine florals with notes of Indian Sambac and Jasmine Petals de Grasse mingling with Waterlily. The scent rounds off with pulses of Musk, sensual Amber, and a hint of Soft Woods, giving the fragrance a comforting warmth and a sense of mystery. This is by far my favourite release from the Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy fragrance portfolio to date and while I usually stick to more demure or sophisticated fragrances this has quickly become my favourite choice for nights on the town!

Viva La Juicy Soirée Eau de Parfum Spray is available from selected retailers at a recommended price R995 (50ml).

3. Sothys Serum Jeunesse: Wrinkle-Specific Youth Serum

Sothys Serum Jeunesse: Wrinkle-Specific Youth Serum
This powerful wrinkle fighting serum is one of six serums in the Sérums Jeunesse by Sothys range which is all about targeted, results-driven skincare. Each serum was designed to treat a specific skin concern whether it be to reduce spots on oily skin, preserve or improve the tone of the skin, give the skin more vitality, dispel the effect of fatigue, or fill wrinkles — there’s a serum that can help in this range. I’ve been trying the Wrinkle-Specific Youth Serum and have been super impressed with the fast results. I don’t have too many wrinkles to treat so the most noticeable difference for me since I’ve started using this serum has been the skin smoothing and plumping effects of the product. If you’re looking for a powerful product with a luxurious feel you’ll adore this Sothys serum. The product is silky soft and melts into the skin within seconds, leaving you with beautiful, soft skin.

Sothys Sérums Jeunesse Wrinkle-Specific Youth Serum is available from selected spas and salons in South Africa.

4. Palladio 4Ever+Ever Lip Paint

Palladio 4Ever+Ever Lip Paint

When it comes to ‘drugstore’ beauty brands, Palladio is one of my favourites. I’ve always loved their lipsticks and glosses so you can imagine how excited I was to discover this new addition to the Palladio lipstick range — Palladio 4Ever+Ever Lip Paint. With just a single stroke, this lippy drenches lips in rich colour. The product feels lush and silky going on and has a beautifully glossy shine without feeling or looking sticky. I also love that the product isn’t too drying. Some lip glosses have a tendency to dry out the lips but this lip paint is infused with aloe, coconut, and apricot oils to help keep lips hydrated and feeling soft even after hours of wear. The lip paint is available in 14 fabulous colors — I tried Timeless, a darker nude brown which is ideal for winter.

Palladio 4Ever+Ever Lip Paint is available from Dis-Chem stores nationwide at R115.

5. Lush Handy Gurugu Hand Cream

 Lush Handy Gurugu Hand Cream
I do a lot of functional and HIIT training which means my hands take a serious beating. Even with gloves I still get the odd callous on my hands and this luxurious hand cream from Lush really helps to soften my hands after a tough workout. The wonder cream is designed to offer relief for hard-worked hands and is pure, buttery heaven in a pot. The cream is super hydrating, thanks to its high butter content of Shea, peanut, cashew and almond butters. But it’s not just a hydrating powerhouse, the cream also helps to reduce redness and soften the skin thanks to a blend of pumpkin seed, rose water, and rose absolute. Lastly, Evening primrose helps to cam the skin while chamomile blue oil acts as an antiseptic for any cuts, scrapes, or tears. For best results, slather on at night and let it work its magic while you sleep.

Lush Handy Gurugu Hand Cream is available from Lush stores as well as online for R160 per 100g.

If you’re still loving the cold winter weather you’ll adore this new addition to the Ice Box range — No Sugar Please (66). This rich, elegant deep plum-purple colour is ideal for winter and is sure to become your new go-to mani-pedi colour when you feel like embracing your dark and sultry side. And, if you haven’t tried Ice Box before now is as good a time as any. I love ice box because the polish has a smooth texture and the wide brush allows you to achieve a really nice clean, finish and the polish dries super quickly — perfect for clumsy lasses like me!

7. BioNike ProXera Stick

BioNike ProXera StickAnother winter favourite of mine is the BioNike ProXera Stick lip balm. This super hydrating lip balm helps to bring lips back to life by protecting them from the elements and repairing dry and chapped lips. The lip balm is preservative, gluten, and fragrance-free and is a real treat for very dry, winter weary lips. The product contains a blend of plant lipids that help to give intense moisture and provide immediate relief to cracked lips without leaving the lips sticky or shiny. If you’re looking for a lip balm that really works, this is it!

10. AVON True Colour Flawless Liquid Foundation

AVON True Colour Flawless Liquid Foundation

This barely-there full coverage foundation has changed the way I think about full coverage makeup. The light-weight formula of this foundation enables you to create a flawless, invisible looking finish without the heavy, cakey feeling that you get from many other full coverage formulas on the market. The genius in this product is all in the technology — the product is ultra-light and invisible in its appearance thanks to the Invisiblend Technology which makes use of skin matching pigments that soften light from every angle, making the foundation appear almost invisible and natural. I have been using this new Avon foundation for a few weeks now and it is truly impressive. It feels so light on the skin that you almost forget you’re wearing foundation and applying it is an absolute dream. The creamy, liquid formula spreads onto skin like silk and almost melts into the skin making it look like that flawless complexion is all you, virtually make-up free. Want to know more?
