Does the New Sorbet Makeup Range Live Up to the Hype? [Review]

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
By now you’ve probably heard that Sorbet has launched a makeup range – it’s safe to say South African women lost their literal minds over this product launch. Women across the country queued outside Sorbet salons and Clicks stores for the launch of the new Sorbet makeup range, all eager to see if the group was able to deliver top-quality makeup products at the affordable prices we’ve come to expect from Sorbet skincare and nailcare products. So, does the range live up to the hype? I tried to Sorbet Face First foundation and Take A Brow brow kit to find out just that.
After great success with the launch of the Sorbet BB Cream and nail colour, it was only a matter of time before Sorbet dipped their toes deeper into the makeup world. The new range offers nine products in total (with more to follow in the coming months) and includes everything from a primer and concealer to bronzer, mascara, and lipstick.
But, the most impressive thing about the makeup launch isn’t the size of the product range, it’s the sheer number of foundation shades available. With a whopping 28 shades in the range, the Sorbet foundation was created with South African women in mind. In addition to the incredible amount of shades available Sorbet also created Foundation Match-Me service at Sorbet salons and Clicks stores to help women find their perfect match.
I really like the Sorbet Face First foundation because it offers light coverage and isn’t overly creamy when applied. The product has a very serum-like, slightly runny texture which I love because I find it gives me a lovely smooth, even finish. It also has an SPF of 15 and is packed with good-for-your-skin ingredients like Squalane (a natural moisturiser from olive oil) and Vitamins A, C & E to help fight harmful free radicals. I found that this easy-to-wear foundation creates a beautiful natural glow on the skin without any added highlighter or blush – it’s ideal for a daytime look and I found it to be quite long-wearing.
Another winner in the collections is the Take A Brow brow kit. I’m a sucker for a good brow kit and this one is right up there with some of my favourite, more higher-end brow kits. The kit includes two colours (light and dark brown) and is everything you need to create “wow” brows at home.
I’ve always prefered brow kits that have two shades of brown because they let you create a more natural-looking brow – my brows are a sort of in-between colour so having two shades allows me to create the perfect colour match. The product also contains Shea Butter to nourish your brows and Cocoa butter and camellia oil for skin conditioning – nice!
While I haven’t yet tried the rest of the collection these two products have indeed encouraged me to splash out and try a few more. The two products I tried are really well priced and offer great value for money. If you’ve always struggled to find a foundation that suits your skin colour I highly recommend you try the colour matching service and the Sorbet Face Time foundation – trust me, you’ll learn a lot!
Sorbet Face First foundation retails for R289,95 while the Take A Brow brow kit will set you back R179,95.
