Cape Town Spot’s Bakes Voted One of the Best Croissants in the World

Croissant de Nata

Are you on the hunt for the best croissant in Cape Town? Well, you’re in luck, because not only do many locals regard Coco Safar’s croissants as being one of the best in Cape Town, but the eatery has recently been given the honour of serving one of the best croissants in the world.

Coco Safar has officially been given that praise by Food & Wine USA, who recognised the breakfast and bakery location’s croissants among the four best croissant spots in the world, on par with bakeries in Paris, Tokyo, and Melbourne.

Located in Sea Point, Cape Town, Coco Safar has become a favourite breakfast and pastry destination for locals and tourists, and even managed to sell an impressive 8,500 croissants in less than 72 hours at its pop-up store in Johannesburg earlier this year.

While the reputation of the croissants is well-known, not many people know exactly what croissants are on offer, but we’ve got everything you need to know about the standout options, below:

Coco Safar recently relaunched one of their most popular creations, the delectable ‘Croissant de Nata’. The cheeky ‘Croissant de Nata’ is a Coco Safar original, a delightful combination of two iconic French-Portuguese inspired pâtisseries – the classic butter croissant and Pastel de Nata.

The first official version of the peppermint tart/ pudding can be traced back to the manufacturers of Orley Whip, right here in SA. This iconic dessert certainly needs no introduction and still evokes much nostalgia and memories and is almost always a decadent ending to wrap up a good old South African braai or Sunday lunch. The Coco Safar team has paid homage to this crowd-pleasing pudding by creating a scrumptious croissant rendition that is bound to resonate with many South Africans. The croissant is not only topped with caramel peppermint but includes a surprise filling inside as well.

Tiramisu literally means, “a pick me up.” An Italian fav, the Tiramisu is a rich treat blending the bold flavours of cocoa and espresso with savoury mascarpone cheese and wine, layered with ladyfinger biscuits. Oozing with creamy mascarpone and coffee-flavoured custard, topped with fresh cream & dusted off with cocoa powder, each layer of this croissant is perfectly created and will have you running back for more.
