Bookings Now Open for De Hoop Nature Reserve Beach Clean Up Weekend in May

For a weekend with a difference, where you can make a difference, book your spot for a Beach Clean-Up weekend at De Hoop Nature Reserve. Join De Hoop Collection, Morukuru Family Beach Lodge and CapeNature at De Hoop Nature Reserve for a different kind of weekend getaway from Friday 16 May to Sunday 18 May 2025 and engage in meaningful environmental work.
There’s always so much to see and do at the world renowned De Hoop Nature Reserve. The reserve is a very unique and special place to connect with nature. De Hoop offers vistors a magic blend of deserted coastline, whales frolicking offshore, rolling sand dunes, fields of fynbos, bontebok, zebra and eland, the Ramsar vlei that is a birder’s paradise, the Potberg mountain with the last breeding colony of vultures in the Western Cape. Walk along the beach or while away the hours admiring the view; climb a white dune; duck into the sea to cool off when things heat up; go snorkelling… and now, to add to the list, you can do something different to preserve an ecological gem.

“We are excited to once again join with Morukuru Family De Hoop and CapeNature on this vital annual project in the ongoing battle against the pollution of our beaches and oceans,” says William Stephens, owner of The De Hoop Collection, a member of Cape Country Routes.
“As the preservation of our natural environment is of the highest importance for us at De Hoop, we’re offering guests a special opportunity to lend a hand in our quest for pristine preservation and we invite you to join us for a special Beach Clean-Up Weekend and experience De Hoop at a discounted rate this May.”

About The De Hoop Collection
The De Hoop Collection, the first private/public partnership in the South African hospitality industry, opened in the De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Western Cape in 2007. The Reserve, in the Overberg region, a short three-hour drive from Cape Town along the world-renowned Garden and Whale routes.
De Hoop Collection offers a wide range of accommodation designed to suit all budgets. Adding to the already unique offering is De Hoop Collections’ new Trail experience the De Hoop Trail – Vlei to Whales that promises a memorable walking experience (+-38km covered over four days) with its brand-new De Mond Villa providing accommodation for a fully catered and guided experience.

What to do at De Hoop Nature Reserve
Overlooking the beautiful vlei with its spectacular birdlife is the staple of De Hoop’s dining scene, The Fig Tree Restaurant and the Silo Wine Cellar where an exceptional variety of wines can be enjoyed. De Hoop, a World Heritage site, offers world-class whale-watching and is a paradise for bird enthusiasts with its more than 260 species of birds including the endangered Cape Vultures. A colony of almost 200 vultures roost and nest in the Potberg Mountains and exciting Vulture hikes and viewing opportunities are offered. Other activities include interpretive marine walks, hiking and mountain biking trails, eco boat cruises on the vlei, nature drives and tennis.

Enhancing the De Hoop ‘experience’ further is the addition of the fascinating Origins of Early Southern Sapiens Behaviour exhibition housed at De Hoop Collection. Highlighting the archaeological heritage and diverse marine environment of the Southern Cape coastline, the exhibition is open to the public and will be managed and maintained by De Hoop Collection for an initial three year period.
De Hoop is a nature lover’s paradise of unparalleled peace and tranquillity and may well be one of the last of the Cape’s unspoiled gems. De Hoop Collection is a member of Cape Country Routes.
