Batman Artist, Riccardo Federicci Confirmed for Comic Con Africa

Ricardo Federicci

Comic book fans were dealt a serious blow in July when Comic Con Africa announced Jason Momoa’s unfortunate withdrawal from the event, but don’t sell your tickets to the event just yet, as a new hero is on the horizon. In a rather exciting turn of events, Comic Con Africa has just announced that renowned artist, Riccardo Federicci has been added to the autograph panel.

The comic and entertainment convention showcases games, movies, comics and way more for local fans starved for geek culture here in sunny South Africa. Taking place at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit & International Convention Centre from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 September 2018, the convention will offer a space for individual artists who produce original artwork in the forms of prints, comics, posters and self-published novels as well as those interested in general comic book culture.

In addition to all the exciting things to and see at this year’s event, the news that they’ve added renowned artist Riccardo Federicci to the fold should give comic fans a new-found reason to get excited for the upcoming event.

Federicci was born in Roma and took an interest in the arts at an early age. He attended the Architecture Faculty at the Sapienza University of Roma whilst studying physiology at the same time. He paints mostly with oils and in 2009 he started to work on a graphic novel called Saria wherein each of the pages is painted.

Comic book fans will know, and love Federicci, as a renowned DC Comics artist who worked on creator-owned titles such as Batman, Green Lantern and Aquaman. The Batman Metal characters for DC Comics’ 2017 series Dark Nights: Metal were also designed by him. He also did the entire interior artwork for Batman Metal: Murder Machine #1  by hand — basically, the man’s a genius!

Information about autograph sessions will be announced at a later stage. Tickets are available from Computicket at R150 per person. To keep up with the news about the event visit the Comic Con Africa 2018 website.
