As the street style and sportswear trend continues to boom, women everywhere are embracing comfort and practicality, especially when it comes to footwear. Sky high heels are so yesterday, today’s modern fashion lover feels far more at home in a funky sneaker, and god bless her for it. The comfort-first footwear trend has resulted in many sports brands creating hybrid athletic shoes with stylish accents that allow you to go from the gym to the coffee shop without skipping  beat.

No sports shoe has become more synonymous with the ‘gym-to-brunch’ lifestyle than the iconic Adidas Ultraboost running shoe. Loved for its ultra-comfortable fit, this popular running shoe takes styling cues from on-trend sneaker designs to offer active types a versatile running shoe that won’t cramp their style.

But now, the recently launched Adidas Sportswear brand is taking it one step further with the arrival of an Ultraboost-inspired sneaker for everyday wear. Offering fashion lovers fresh fits that use the latest Adidas Performance technology, Adidas Sportswear brings the same comfort and confidence to the everyday. And, the first sneaker drop from the Sportswear lineup does not disappoint.

Say hello to the Adidas X PLRboost; a fashion-forward little sister to the Ultraboost that’s all about comfort. With a silhouette born from the brand’s leading Ultraboost 1.0, this sneaker is the shoe I didn’t know that I’d been waiting for. Blending running technology with fresh lifestyle detailing, the PLRboost goes above and beyond to level up comfort and provide an optimum fit. The shoe is a masterclass in a hybrid of technical features and stylistic expression, and is sure to become a wardrobe staple for many women looking to fine-tune their everyday casual athleisure look.

Slipping on this shoe for the first time was indeed an experience. Right off the bat, the sneaker’s soft neoprene Primeknit collar ensured a glove-like fit — not too snug or tight, but just right. With the shoe’s marshmallow-soft sole, it’s clear that comfort remains at the core of the PLRboost’s design. Back by full-length Boost midsole cushioning, the sneaker is even more comfortable than my favourite pair of fluffy winter slippers.

To create the ultra-comfortable feel that the Adidas Boost technology is known for, two pieces are tactically sandwiched between a TPU frame in the midsole to provide additional comfort and responsiveness. Building on the Boost incorporated into its base, the added moulded heel keeps the foot locked in.

Even better news, they’ll go with pretty much any outfit. The chunky, sports-inspired design takes its design cues from the original Ultraboost running shoe model, with a smoother all-round shape. The shoe features muted tones and bright colourful accents, making them ideal for everyday wear while still making a statement.

Made in part with recycled materials, the shoe has a premium look and feel. The design is accentuated with an engineered mesh, a combination of textures on the shell exterior, and contrasting coloured design codes. To add a stylish edge to the sneaker, a two-tone rubber outsole, bold pop of colour in bright coral on the heel, and a stand-out three-stripe logo tag finish off the look.

For those who truly love the sportswear look, pairing the Adidas Sportswear X PLRBoost sneaker with other items from the Adidas Sportswear collection is a must. I love the all-black Tiro Suit Up co-ord, a reimagining of the iconic Adidas tracksuit. With a deep heritage in football, the Tiro Suit is the epitome of classic 90s sport design.

This supremely comfortable set is perfect for running errands or grabbing lunch with friends and brings functionality to the fore whilst maintaining a minimalistic look. The versatile classic 3-stripe set can be paired with any number of things for an everyday look or to create a more dressy casual, yet fashion-forward ensemble for a night out.

The Adidas Sportswear X PLRBoost is available at select Adidas stores and online Adidas.co.za. at R3,499. Grab the Tiro Suit Up track top for R1,699 and the Tiro Suit Up track pants for R1,699.
