A Visit to Fresh Wellness Spa is the Ultimate Spoil! [Review]

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
Truth be told, if it wasn’t for day spas I’d probably be locked away in a padded room by now. Some days I feel so busy and overwhelmed that even taking time out to eat seems impossible (and I absolutely love food!) So, when I’m feeling like I just can’t possibly deal anymore I book myself in for some forced relaxation at a nearby spa. Sure, I could probably try meditation or reading but I find that a visit to the spa is the only thing that really works for me – maybe it’s because it’s the one place I’m not allowed to have my cell phone switched on or because most spa treatments don’t require you to talk to anyone during said treatment (an introvert’s dream!), either way, it’s the ultimate reset for me. So, as you can imagine I’ve visited my fair share of spas and I must say my most recent visit to Fresh Wellness at The Cellars Hohenort in Constantia has been one of my most memorable spa visits this year. When it comes to spas in Cape Town, it really is a cut above the rest – from the treatments to the absolutely stunning location, Fresh Wellness is everything you want in a spa… and so much more!

All hands on deck!
So what’s the secret to their success? It’s easy – Fresh Wellness Owner, Jean-Mari Ferreira is a therapist herself and runs a tight, but oh-so-tranquil, ship at both her Constantia and Plettenberg Bay branches. Jean-Mari is incredibly hands-on when it comes to her spas and she handpicks only the best therapists to work at Fresh Wellness. And, when I say the best you had better believe these ladies have some of the best hands in the business! I only had a 30-minute treatment at the spa and my super talented therapist made it feel like I was in there for hours. My Back, Neck and Shoulder massage (R390 for 30-minutes) was honestly one of the best I have ever experienced and I left feeling like ever knot and bit of stress and tension had left my body. I was so relaxed after my 30-minute session that I was convinced the therapist had mistakenly prolonged my treatment. If I felt like that after 30 minutes just imagine what a full hour-long treatment or a half-day session at the spa could do for you! I for one want to find out so I will be booking a return trip very soon.

Another big plus for me was the massage bed – it might sound like a random thing to get excited about but I often find massage beds dig into my face during the treatment and the pressure against my face becomes very uncomfortable after a while. I had my treatment in the spa’s double room and the beds in there were unbelievably comfortable. The headrest was perfectly cushioned and I didn’t have to adjust my face once during my treatment. I also found the bed itself to be super soft and luxurious and I’m quite sure I would have dosed off if my treatment was any longer. If you’ve ever had a sore face after a massage then you will know how fabulous it is to be able to completely relax into the headrest during your treatment.

An unbeatable setting
But it’s not just the therapists that make the spot so darn fabulous, Fresh Wellness in Constantia is also set in one of the most tranquil spots in Cape Town. If you haven’t paid a visit to The Cellars Hohenort lately (or ever) then you need to make a plan to go soon. It’s only a 30-minute scenic drive from the Cape Town CBD and you will feel like you’re on a mini holiday when you arrive. The spa is surrounded by the most beautiful gardens and if you’re not ready to go home after your treatment then you can go for a stroll in the hotel gardens or enjoy some tea and cake at the hotel’s The Conservatory restaurant (they serve a delicious low-carb high tea!). You can also arrange to have lunch or breakfast at the spa after your treatment, just ask at reception when booking or on the day.

But wait, there’s more!
Fresh Wellness stocks a wide variety of top skincare and beauty brands including Babor, Theravine, and qms and their menu offers everything from facials and massages to manis & pedis, hydrotherapy, waxing and more. The spa is also adjacent to the most incredible hair salon, Hair by Elouise so if you’re really in the mood for a head to toe pamper then you can get your hair done at the salon on the same day! I popped into the hair salon for a quick styling session with owner, Elouise Meyer, and was super impressed with how knowledgeable and passionate she is! She shared some amazing styling tips with me during our session and my hair looked incredible after she was done with it.
