5 Unmissable Running Events Coming Up in Cape Town

Capetonians are spoilt for choice when it comes to running amid some of the most scenic beauty in the world, and for running enthusiasts, they’ll be out there hitting the tarmac or the mountain trails come rain or shine. Cape Town also some of the best running events in the country, but how do you know which ones are worth rising before dawn? We’ve put together a definitive list of the 5 best upcoming running events you can start stretching for:

1. 11th Annual Cape Gate Clicks Charity Run

This annual charity run with a festive spirit brings together 3000 runners and walkers for a 21km and a 10km race and a 5km fun run where you’re invited to get creative with your running attire – there are prizes for the best dressed! All proceeds go to the Clicks Helping Hand Trust. Entry forms are available at Clicks, Cape Gate Shopping Centre or online. Entries close on 8 October.

2. OUTsurance KFM Gun Run

This iconic annual race is back for its 25th year! Taking place along the picturesque Beach Road in Mouille Point, you can choose between a 21km or 10km race, as well as a 5km fun run if you’re wanting to get involved without too much training.

3. Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Fun Run

This 4.2km fun run is a wonderful event that is open to everyone – even walkers – and unites communities. Get your schools, businesses, families, and friends involved in this awesome, prestigious athletic event. It’s a simple, flat route around the Green Point Urban Park and Biodiversity Garden with a one-hour cut-off time, so it’s really a simple run that accommodates all.

4. Klapmuts Cup Trail Run

Run this gorgeous, long distance trail with scenic Wineland views and stand a chance to win the local trophy. The Klapmutskop trail network has been extended and the long distance winners will run to win the local trophy! Join in the fun with wonderful views of the winelands. Take in the sweeping vistas and the farm life around you on the rewarding single track Klapmuts trails. There are fantastic prizes up for grabs and even a massage at the finish line.

5. Halloween Forest Night Run at Muratie

This one’s for the brave! Enjoy a spooky night run through the Muratie forest all in the name of good fun. There’s prizes for best dressed as well as a wine tasting at Muratie and a Halloween goodie bag for all participants.
