5 Beauty Products That Actually Work [Review]

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
It’s time for another WomenStuff beauty round up! Every month our beauty desk is inundated with new beauty products to try – from new skincare product releases to fabulous new makeup items and more, there’s always something exciting popping up. So, I decided to put them all together for you in one convenient place so you get all the reviews and news on the latest must-try beauty products without having to sift through a million articles. All of the products featured here have been personally reviewed by me, so you know they’re aces. Here are 5 new beauty products to try in August!
1. Elizabeth Arden Statement Brow
If you’re desperate to get your brow game on point then this new little number from Elizabeth Arden is a must try. The all-in-one tinted gel is a bit of a triple threat when it comes to brows – it conditions (thanks to the Shea Butter and Grapeseed Oil it contains), fills, and shapes brows just the way you want them and is the perfect tool to help create a defined look. The smudge-proof formula is said to give you up to 12 hours of wear – I haven’t tested it for that long yet but I can testify that I’ve worn it for a few hours with no budging or smudging. I love the precision brush that comes with the product, it makes the product easy to apply and really lets you get into those stubborn little gaps. The product is available in four colours (including blonde, black, honey, and deep brown), so you’re sure to find a shade that suits you in the range.
Elizabeth Arden Statment Brow brow gel is available from Woolworths at R285. It can also be found at other leading beauty counters nationwide.
2. Earthsap All-Natural Deodorant
A few months ago I started developing a very scary looking, painful rash on my underarm area. It was the most relentless rash I’ve ever had and I had a constant need to scratch it. Sick of scratching like a real life chimpanzee, I decided to consult a skin specialist who suggested I start using natural, aluminum-free deodorant. I started using the Earthsap Tea Tree & Lemon roll-on and in a week the rash was gone. Tea Tree is a wonderfully healing ingredient and this deodorant helped to soothe the rash while still keeping me lemony fresh. This all-natural roll-on deodorant is mild but effective and, most importantly, is free from harsh synthetic ingredients and toxins. The deodorant allows your pores to breathe and doesn’t block the sweat ducts like a lot of other roll-ons or sprays do. The range offers four different varieties including Wild Rose & Vanilla and Lavender & Rosemary.
Earthsap Roll-on (50ml) is available from Wellness Warehouse at R54.
3. Palladio Pop Shine Brilliant Lip Balm
Palladio Pop Shine Lip Balm is sure to be a firm favourite in your makeup bag this summer. The chubby pencil shape of the applicator makes it super easy to apply and the bright range of colours look beautiful against sun-kissed summer skin. The botanical and vitamin infused balm comes in six shades, ranging from daring purples to natural-looking nudes and they’re all very well pigmented. The pigment is so great you can’t even call this a balm, it’s more of a light lipstick. This beautiful product glides on super smooth like a balm, leaving your lips feeling soft and cared for and in my books, it’s the perfect lipstick-balm hybrid. I tried Get Real, a darker nude shade which complimented by pale skin but if you love bright pinks, then I would recommend you try Socialite, the vivacious watermelon pink is the perfect poolside shade. The product doesn’t give you much shine on the lips, like the tube claims, but the bright pigments and moisturising qualities of this lippy more than make up for it.
Palladio Pop Shine Brilliant Lip Balm is available from Dis-Chem at R95.
4. Sephora Collection Mask It Set
Thanks to online beauty store, Eye See Hue, you can now easily get your hands on some fabulous Sephora Collection products right here in SA. One of the Sephora Collection products available on the store is this amazing collection of sheet masks. The set of six masks each target a specific concern for the eye area, hands, feet, or face and it’s the perfect way to give yourself a head to toe treat at home. The set contains two face masks in avocado and lotus, an orchid eye mask, argan hand mask, almond toot mask, and charcoal nose strip. I tried the avocado face mask, which is great for those looking to treat sensitive skin and give their skin a moisture boost. Like a lot of sheet masks, this mask is quite flimsy when you remove it from the packaging so you have to be careful not to tear it but once it’s on the face it feels like a dream. The mask is loaded with serum and felt cooling and comforting on my skin while wearing it. Once my 15 minutes of face mask time was up I could instantly feel a difference in my skin – my skin felt fresh, hydrated, and looked beautifully dewy after using the mask, I’m hooked!
The Sephora Collection Mask It set is available from Eye See Hue at R400.
5. La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+
This miracle cream from La Roche-Posay helps to soothe sensitive skin and rebuild the skin barrier. I struggle with dry skin and I found this product to be incredibly moisturising, especially in winter. My feet, legs, and hands tend to get very dry in winter and this cream helped soothe my dry chapped heels and kept my feet soft and subtle throughout winter. The lotion was created to help relieve very dry, flaky, itching skin associated with atopic eczema or people suffering from chronically dry skin. It helps to keep the skin soft, supple and comfortable and can be used by adults, children and even babies. If you struggle with eczema or psoriasis on the body then this cream will help to lessen the flare ups experienced thanks to its incredible healing properties found in one of the key ingredients – La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water. A true wonder of nature, this ingredient reduces sensitivity with its soothing, antioxidant properties thanks to its unique Selenium content.
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+ is available from Dermastore at R280.
