Joburg is filled with amazing eateries – sure Cape Town is known for it’s foodie scene but trust us, Joburg has it’s fair share of amazing places to eat! Luckily for all the Joburg foodies the city has seen a serious increase in new restaurants opening in the past few months. We’ve put together a handy list of all the must-try new spots and the great news is, there’s something for everyone! Check out our list of 10 must-try new restaurants and bars in Joburg. 

1. Industry Bakery

This new independent bakery situated on Barry Hertzog Avenue in Emmarentia offers a fresh experience in breads, pastries, coffee and some of the best curated products from independent local producers. We also love that the owners have pledged that they will try their best to only source their ingredients and products from suppliers based in Johannesburg. Visit them for artisanal and traditional breads freshly baked daily, pastries and confectioneries, barista-made coffees and specialty teas.

2. The Artisan

The Artisan

Situated on Gleneagles Road in Greenside this new spot combines high quality ingredients, with artisanal craftwork to bring hungry Joburgers an elegantly simple menu of gourmet sandwiches, coffee and more. It’s a great place to grab a quick bite and with a selection of craft beers and delicious cocktails on the menu, an even better place for after work drinks.

3. Bliss Juicery

Head to this new spot at The Colony Centre in Craighall for tasty cold-pressed juices. Their juices are 100% natural with no added sugars, preservatives, flavourants or colourants and their menu was designed to give you a delicious and nutritious selection of juices to help you take the work out of juicing. Try their 3-day or 5-day cleanse program or even an individual juice to look and feel your best.

4. Bistro Michel

Well-known Chef Michel Morand is back with this new venture in Joburg! As if you needed another reason to visit the BluBird Centre (hello, Belle’s Patisserie is there!) the new, Bistro Michel which opened its doors in January 2015 offers a fantastic wine selection as well as a homey menu featuring recipes straight from the chef’s mother!

5. Jordy’s Pacific Bistro

This rather quirky new kosher-friendly eatery focuses on pacific rim style cuisine and offers diners an Asian fusion experience like no other. They offer all-you-can-eat sushi at R 125 per person (excluding sashimi) on Tuesdays between 18:00 -21:00 as well as a range of other fabulous specials.

6. Four Seasons, Westcliff Deli

That’s right, The Four Seasons has a deli! Head through to this chic spot and pick up a quick snack or sit down in the courtyard and soak up the vibe. With elements of warm wood and French-style decor, this casual eatery offers a great excuse to visit the Four Seasons (even if you can’t afford their other fancy pants restaurants).

Joburg finally has its very own German Brauhaus! Visit this spot in Melville for their bespoke beer menu offering bottled and draft craft beers beer from South Africa and around the world as well as delicious German cuisine.

8. Gwefey Teahouse

If you love tea then this is going to become your new favourite hang out! Located in Sandton City the trendy Gwefey Teahouse is a must-visit for lunch-time tea breaks and meet ups with friends. Offering a range of teas to be enjoyed at your table or at home. The spot also offers delicious Asian grub (including Dim Sum).

9. Café Del Sol Botannico

This new eatery is the sister restaurant of the legendary Café Del Sol in Olivedale and is quickly being hailed as the best thing to happen to the Italian restaurant scene in Joburg since, well the original Café Del Sol. Botanico is all about exploring the hidden language of nature and relating that language back to food and making it relevant to you on your plate. Visit them for incredible Italian grub and super friendly service. There’s no place quite like it.

10. The Landmark Cocktail Bar

Located next door to the new, and oh-so-fabulous Café Del Sol Botannico in Bryanston Shopping Centre, The Landmark Cocktail Bar showcases the finest wines, craft beers and cocktails. The bar takes their drinks VERY seriously and their extensive wine list is sourced from some well-known and not so well known estates from South Africa as well as notable houses with rare vintages from around the world, complementing Cafe Del Sol’s Italian flavour and style. The small and focused beer list rotates every 3 months to offer styles for each new seasons whereas the cocktail list prides itself on seasonal quality fresh ingredients and hand crafted ice (yes, we said ice).
